A new Schiff base nickel(II) complex: {5,5'-dihydr-oxy-2,2'-[o-phenyl-enebis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenolato}nickel(II) methanol disolvate.

ABSTRACT: The monomeric title nickel(II) complex of a salicylaldimine, [Ni(C(20)H(14)N(2)O(4))]·2CH(3)OH, was obtained by the reaction of 2,4-dihydroxy-benzaldehyde and 1,2-phenyl-enediamine with nickel(II) acetate. The Ni(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms [Ni-N = 1.839?(2)?Å] and two O atoms [Ni-O = 1.8253?(19)?Å] in an approximately square-planar geometry. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a chain along [001].

The monomeric title nickel(II) complex of a salicylaldimine, [Ni(C(20)H(14)N(2)O(4))]·2CH(3)OH, was obtained by the reaction of 2,4-dihydroxy-benzaldehyde and 1,2-phenyl-enediamine with nickel(II) acetate. The Ni(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms [Ni-N = 1.839 (2) Å] and two O atoms [Ni-O = 1.8253 (19) Å] in an approximately square-planar geometry. Project description:In the title complex, [Ni(C(20)H(14)N(2)O(4))]·2H(2)O, the Ni(II) ion is in an essentially square-planar geometry involving an N(2)O(2) atom set of the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand. The Ni atom lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis. The asymmetric unit contains one half-mol-ecule of the complex and a water mol-ecule. An inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond forms a four-membered ring, producing an R(1) (2)(4) ring motif involving a bifurcated hydrogen bond to the phenolate O atoms of the complex mol-ecule. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked by ?-? stacking inter-actions, with centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.5750?(11)-3.7750?(11)?Å. As a result of the twofold symmetry, the central benzene ring makes the same dihedral angle of 15.75?(9)° with the two outer benzene rings. The dihedral angle between the two hydroxy-phenyl rings is 13.16?(5)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into infinite one-dimensional chains by directed four-membered O-H?O-H inter-actions along the c axis and are further connected by C-H?O and ?-? stacking into a three-dimensional network. An inter-esting feature of the crystal structure is the short Ni?O, O?O and N?N inter-actions which are shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii of the relevant atoms. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and by ?-? stacking inter-actions.

In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link two CuL mol-ecules and four solvent mol-ecules into a centrosymmetric cluster. The crystal packing exhibits short inter-molecular C?C contacts of 3.185?(4) and 3.232?(4)?Å.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(C(22)H(18)N(2)O(4))]·2CH(2)Cl(2), was isolated from the reaction of N,N'(o-phenyl-ene)bis-(vanillalimine) (H(2)L) with Co(SCN)(2). The crystal structure contains a Co(II) ion surrounded by the L(2-) ligand in a slightly distorted square-planar fashion. Inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen-bonding contacts between the dichloro-methane solvent mol-ecules and the meth-oxy or carboxyl-ate O atoms are observed in the crystal structure. The planar complex mol-ecules stack through inversion related ?-? inter-actions between the six-membered rings of the vanillalimine half ligands. The distance between centroids is 3.498?(2)?Å and the perpendicular distance is 3.345?Å. A partial stacking is observed with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.830?(2)?Å, a perpendicular distance of 3.350?Å and a slippage of 1.856?Å.

The Cu(II) atom is bonded to two N imino atoms and three phenolate O atoms of salphen. One deprotonated phenol group of each ligand bridges two Cu atoms, forming the dimer. The geometry about the five-coordinate Cu atom can best be described as slightly distorted recta-ngular pyramidal. The crystal structure is stabilized by ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance 3.779?(2)?Å] and C-H?O hydrogen bonds.
