Hydro-nium 4-oxo-1,4-dihydro-pyridine-3-sulfonate dihydrate.

ABSTRACT: 2-Hydroxy-pyridine when treated with concentrated sulfuric acid is sulfonated at the 3-position to yield the title hydrated salt, H(3)O(+)·C(5)H(4)NO(3)S(-)·2H(2)O. In the crystal structure, the cations, anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are linked by extensive O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The crystal studied is a non-merohedral twin with a twin component of 36%.

Project description:In the title compound, H(3)O(+)·C(8)H(7)O(8)P(2) (-), the anions form inversion dimmers by way of pairs of O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving the phospho-nic functions and via the hydro-nium cation. Further O-H?O links involving the hydronium cation play a prominant part in the cohesion of the crystal structure by building bridges between bis-phospho-nate pairs, forming infinite ribbons along the b-axis direction and by cross-linking these ribbons perpendicularly along the a-axis direction, forming an infinite three-dimensional hydrogen-bond network. The benzene ring and the C=O atoms of the furan ring are disordered over two sets of positions of equal occupancy.

Project description:The title compound, C8H9NO3, likely generated through hydrolysis and esterification of 3'-carb-oxy-3-methyl-(1,4'-bipyridin)-1-ium chloride by ethanol, which contained water, has a nearly planar conformation. The crystal structure is sustained by one-dimensional chains along the a-axis direction based on bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds between the NH group of the 4-oxo-1,4-di-hydro-pyridine ring and the two carbonyl O atoms.

Project description:In the crystal of the title compound, C(11)H(15)NO(4), the mol-ecules are linked into sheets by N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. Within the mol-ecule, the 1,4-dihydro-pyridine ring exhibits a distinctive planar conformation [r.m.s. deviation from the mean plane of 0.009?(3)Å], and the other non-H atoms are almost coplanar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.021?(3)?Å] with the 1,4-dihydro-pyridine ring. The conformation of the latter is governed mainly by two intra-molecular C-H?O non-classical inter-actions.
