The growth factor myostatin (Mstn) is a negative regulator of skeletal muscle mass. Mstn(-/-) muscles are hypertrophied, stronger, and more glycolytic than Mstn(+/+) muscles, suggesting that they might not perform endurance exercise as well as Mstn(+/+) mice.
