Bis(4-amino-pyridinium) tetra-chlorido-cobaltate(II).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, (C(5)H(7)N(2))(2)[CoCl(4)], the cobalt(II) ion is coordinated by four chloride ions in a slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by inter-molecular N-H?Cl hydrogen bonding, forming a three-dimensional network. The crystal was a non-merohedral twin emulating tetra-gonal symmetry, but being in fact ortho-rhom-bic.

Project description:The title salt, (C5H6ClN2)2[CoCl4], was synthesized by slow evaporation of an aqueous solution at room temperature. The asymmetric unit consists of two essentially planar (C5H6ClN2)(+) cations [maximum deviations = 0.010?(3) and 0.014?(3)?Å] that are nearly perpendicular to each other [dihedral angle = 84.12?(7)°]. They are bonded through N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds to distorted [CoCl4](2-) tetra-hedra, leading to the formation of undulating layers parallel to (100). The structure is isotypic with the Zn analogue [Kefi et. al (2011). Acta Cryst. E67, m355-m356.].

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of bis-(2,6-di-amino-pyridinium) tetra-chlorido-cobaltate(II).

Project description:In the title mol-ecular salt, (C5H8N3)2[CoCl4], the cations are protonated at their pyridine N atoms and the anion is an almost regular tetra-hedron. The crystal structure consists of alternating inorganic layers, built from tetra-chlorido-cobaltate anions, and organic layers formed by protonated cations of 2,6-di-amino-pyridinium. The crystal packing is governed by C/N-H⋯Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the organic and the inorganic ions and Cl⋯Cl inter-actions. Moreover, the cations show a π-π stacking inter-action [inter-centroid distance = 3.763 (2) Å]. The prevalence of these inter-actions is illustrated by an analysis of the three-dimensional Hirshfeld surface and by two-dimensional fingerprint plots.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, (C(6)H(16)N)(2)[CoCl(4)], is comprised of a tetrahedral [CoCl(4)](2-) anion and two independent triethyl-ammonium cations. The latter are featureless while the [CoCl(4)](2-) anion exhibits typical Co-Cl bond lengths [2.2428?(15)-2.2847?(16)?Å] and a Cl-Co-Cl angular range of 107.58?(6)-112.73?(7)°. In the crystal, N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds between the two crystallographically independent cations and the [CoCl(4)](2-) anion generate discrete ion triplets. The two Co-Cl bonds involved in these inter-actions are slightly longer than the remaining two.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(5)H(5)ClN)(2)[NiCl(4)], the dianion lies on a twofold rotation axis. Two cations are linked to each anion by classical N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, and short Cl⋯Cl contacts and Cl⋯π stacking inter-actions [with distances of 3.376 (2) and 3.684 (2) Å, respectively] extend this pattern into a chain. The [NiCl(4)](2-) anion shows significant deviation from ideal tetra-hedral geometry.

Dimorpholinium tetra-chlorido-cobaltate(II).

Project description:In the title mol-ecular salt, (C(4)H(10)NO)(2)[CoCl(4)], the morpholinium cations adopt chair conformations and the tetra-chloridocobaltate(II) anion is significantly distorted from regular tetra-hedral geometry [Cl-Co-Cl = 102.183 (19)-117.59 (2)°]. The Co-Cl bond lengths for the chloride ions not accepting hydrogen bonds are significantly shorter than those for the chloride ions accepting such bonds. In the crystal, the components are linked by N-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl and bifurcated N-H⋯(O,Cl) hydrogen bonds to generate (100) sheets.

Bis(3-methyl-pyridinium) tetra-(chlorido/bromido)cuprate(II).

Project description:The structure of the title salt, (C(6)H(8)N)(2)[CuCl(3.4)Br(0.6)], consists of two 3-methyl-pyridinium cations and a distorted tetra-hedral [CuCl(3.4)Br(0.6)](2-) dianion. Substitutional disorder with Br is exhibited for three of the Cl atoms of the anion, giving a mixed chloride/bromide cuprate(II) anion. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds link two cations to one anion, forming a three-ion aggregate. These are connected into a supra-molecular chain along the b axis via ?-? inter-actions between the pyridinium rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.743?(3)?Å].

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, (C(7)H(10)N)(2)[CoBr(4)], the [CoBr(4)](2-) anion is connected to two cations through N-H?Br and H(2)C-H?Br hydrogen bonds to form two-dimensional cation-anion-cation layers normal to the crystallographic b axis. Inter-actions of the ?-? type are absent between cations in the stacks [centroid-centroid separation = 5.01?(5)?Å]. Significant inter-molecular Br-aryl inter-actions are present in the structure, especially an unusually short Br-ring centroid inter-action of 3.78?(1)?Å. The coordination geometry of the anion is approximately tetrahedral and a twofold rotation axis passes through the Co atom.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title salt, (C7H11N2)2[CuCl4], comprises half a tetrahedral tetra-chlorido-cuprate anion, being located on a twofold axis, and a protonated 4-(di-methyl-amino)-pyridine cation. The geometry around the Cu(II) ion is highly distorted with the range of Cl-Cu-Cl angles being 94.94?(1)-141.03?(1)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H?Cl and C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. In the three-dimensional network, cations and anions pack in the lattice so as to generate chains of [CuCl4](2-) anions separated by two orientations of cation layers, which are inter-locked through ?-? stacking contacts between pairs of pyridine rings, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.7874?(7)?Å.
