ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(17)H(14)N(2)O, crystallizes as a cis formamide isomer. The isoquinoline and benzene fragments are nearly perpendicular [dihedral angle = 81.79?(18)°], whereas the formamide group is virtually coplanar with the isoquinoline unit [dihedral angle = 1.66?(15)°]. Inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into a centrosymmetric dimer.

The dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two orientations with site occupancies of 0.684 (3) and 0.316 (3). The two N atoms of the hydrazinecarboxamide group are involved in inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds in which the dimethyl-formamide O atom acts as acceptor. The structure also features π-π inter-actions, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.6561 (13) Å. Classical and non-classical intra-molecular O-H⋯N and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are also present.

This conformation is stabilized by two intra-molecular N-H⋯N(pyridine) bonds. In the crystal, strong O-H⋯O(carboxamide) and N-H⋯O(hy-droxy-phen-yl) hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules, forming a three-dimensional structure. The di-methyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules are not involved in the hydrogen bonding. These are bridged into loosely associated double chains via C-H?O inter-actions involving the disordered (over two positions) dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules. The thio-urea-bound phenyl ring is also disordered over two positions of equal occupancy.
