ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(16)H(12)F(3)NO, a derivative of biologically active chalcones, comprises two benzene rings and a central -CH=CH-C(=O)- unit. The dihedral angle between the two rings is 10.9?(1)° and the mol-ecule adopts an E configuration about the central olefinic bond. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular N-H?O and N-H?N hydrogen bonds.

In the crystal, weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains propagating in [010]. The crystal packing also exhibits short Br?Br contacts of 3.4787?(8)?Å. A comparison of the DFT-optimized gas-phase mol-ecular geometry with that in the crystal structure revealed only small differences.

Project description:The title compound, C(15)H(12)ClNO, a substituted chalcone, adopts an E configuration with respect to the C=C bond of the enone unit. The mol-ecule is not planar, as can be seen from the dihedral angle of 28.9 (2)° between the two rings which are twisted from each other. The enone segment of the mol-ecule is not coplanar with the chloro-phenyl ring, making a dihedral angle of 23.4 (3)° with it. The amino group is also not coplanar with the ring to which it is bound, making a dihedral angle of 35 (4)°. In the crystal structure, adjacent mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O inter-actions into one-dimensional infinite chains along the c axis, and are further stacked as one-dimensional zigzag chains down the b axis, forming two-dimensional extended networks parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:There are two crystallograpically independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit of the title heteroaryl chalcone derivative, C(16)H(16)O(4)S, with slightly different conformations. The thienyl ring of one mol-ecule is disordered over two positions, with a refined site-occupancy ratio of 0.713?(5):0.287?(5). The mol-ecules are twisted: the dihedral angle between the thienyl and benzene rings is 9.72?(19)° in the ordered mol-ecule, and 3.8?(4) and 2.1?(8)° for the major and minor components, respectively, in the disordered mol-ecule. In both mol-ecules, all three substituted meth-oxy groups are coplanar with the benzene ring to which they are attached. In each mol-ecule, a weak intra-molecular C-H?O inter-action generates an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal structure, adjacent mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by weak C-H?O inter-actions.
