ABSTRACT: In the acid mol-ecule of the title complex, C(10)H(8)N(2)·C(8)H(8)O(3), the acetyl C-C-C-O torsion angle is -32.1?(3)°, and in the mol-ecule of the base, the dihedral angle between the two pyridine rings is 23.41?(10)°. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonds link the acid and the base mol-ecules into a one-dimensional triple-helix framework extended along the b axis.

Project description:Crystals of the title adduct, C(10)H(8)N(2)·2C(3)H(3)NO(2), were obtained from a methanol/water solution of cyano-acetic acid and 4,4'-bipyridine at room temperature. In the crystal structure, cyano-acetic acid and centrosymmetric 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules are linked by O-H?N hydrogen bonds to form three-component supra-molecular adducts. The acidic H atom is almost midway between the O and N atoms of the cyano-acetic acid and bipyridine mol-ecules, with O-H and N-H distances of 1.19?(3) and 1.39?(3)?Å, respectively, so that the H-atom transfer is best regarded as partial. The three-component adducts are further inter-connected with neighboring mol-ecules by weak inter-molecular C-H?O and C-H?N hydrogen bonds and by ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7200?(11)?Å] to generate a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:In the title 1/2 adduct, C(10)H(8)N(2)·2C(7)H(6)O(2)S, the dihedral angle between the pyridine rings is 18.41?(11)°. In the thio-phene-acrylic acid mol-ecules, the dihedral angles between the respective thio-phene and acrylic acid units are 5.52?(17)° and 23.92?(9)°. In the crystal, the components are linked via O-H?N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming units of two 3-thio-phene-acrylic acid mol-ecules and one 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecule.

Project description:The combination of 2-hydroxy-propane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid (H(3)hypta, also called citric acid) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) in a 1:1.5 molar ratio leads to the formation of the title mol-ecular cocrystal, 1.5C(10)H(8)N(2)·C(6)H(8)O(7). The asymmetric unit contains one and a half 4,4'-bipy units, with one lying across a centre of inversion, and one H(3)hypta mol-ecule. The significant differences in the C-O bond distances support the existence of the un-ionized acid mol-ecule and confirm the formation of a cocrystal. There are ?-? and C-H?? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of 4,4'-bipy [with inter-planar distances of 3.7739?(8) and 3.7970?(8)?Å] and between CH groups of H(3)hypta [with an H?? distance of 2.63?Å]. In the crystal structure, intermolecular O-H?N hydrogen bonds occur and an O-H?O hydrogen bond occurs within the citric acid moiety.
