ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(33)H(36)N(2)O(8), is the first example of a disubstituted peptidic pentacycloundecane (PCU) diol. The structure displays an array of inter- and intra-molecular hydrogen bonding by both amide and alcohol functional groups. This hydrogen-bonding system connects the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, C(13)H(14)O(2), a penta-cyclo-undecane cage derivative, exhibits unusual Csp(3)-Csp(3) single-bond lengths ranging from 1.505?(3) to 1.607?(2)?Å and strained bond angles as small as 88.7?(1)° and as large as 121.0?(2)°. In this meso compound, an inter-nal non-crystallographic mirror plane exists, bis-ecting the mol-ecule. In the crystal, weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into an infinite spiral about a twofold screw axis along the [100] direction.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, C(26)H(29)NO(7), at 173 K has an inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond. This is one of the few examples where a mono-ketone penta-cyclo-undecane (PCU) mol-ecule exibits hydrogen bonding in the solid state. The dihedral angles of the amide and ester groups are normal and unaffected by the cage structure. A longer than normal C-C bond [1.571 (4) Å] was found within the cage structure.

Project description:The title compounds, C17H20O2 (1) and C17H18O2 (2), are allyl-ated caged compounds. In (1), the carbon atoms bearing the allyl groups are far apart [2.9417?(17)?Å], hence the expected ring-closing metathesis (RCM) protocol failed to give a ring-closing product. When these carbon atoms are connected by a C-C bond as in (2), the distance between them is much smaller [1.611?(3)?Å] and consequently the RCM process was successful. The caged carbon skeleton of (1) can be described as a fusion of four five-membered rings and one six-membered ring. All four five-membered rings exhibit envelope conformations. The structure of compound (2) consists of four five-membered rings, of which two are cyclo-penta-none rings bonded at the 2, 4 and 5 positions and linked at the 3-carbons by a methyl-ene bridge. It also consists of one four-membered and two six-membered rings. All four five-membered rings adopt envelope conformations. In the crystal of (1), mol-ecules are linked via C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming sheets lying parallel to (010). In the crystal of (2), mol-ecules are linked via C-H?O hydrogen bonds forming chains along [100].

The two benzene rings are not planar with respect to each other, but rather are twisted at a torsion angle of 34.67 (17)°. The mol-ecule has an intra-molecular O-H⋯O inter-action and participates in two C-H⋯O inter-molecular inter-actions to form a one-dimensional chain.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Hf(C10H15)2(C4H9)2], reveals two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The diffraction experiment was performed with a racemically twinned crystal showing a 0.529?(5):0.471?(5) component ratio. Each Hf(IV) atom is coordinated by two penta-methyl-cyclo-penta-dienyl and two n-butyl ligands in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry, with the cyclo-penta-dienyl rings inclined to one another by 45.11?(15) and 45.37?(16)°. In contrast to the isostructural di(n-butyl)bis(? (5)-penta-methyl-cyclo-penta-dien-yl)zirconium(IV) complex with a noticeable difference in the Zr-butyl bonding, the Hf-Cbut-yl bond lengths differ from each other by no more than 0.039?(3)?Å.

The title compound exhibits unusual Csp (3)-Csp (3) single bond lengths ranging from 1.495?(3) to 1.581?(2) and strained bond angles as small as 89.29?(12) and as large as 115.11?(11)°.

Project description:The title compound, [Hf(C5H5)2(C8H16)], proves a structural motif of hafna-cyclo-pentane besides the coordination of two cyclo-penta-dienyl ligands in an η(5)-fashion. The hafna-cyclo-pentane ring has a twist conformation and is substituted by two ethyl groups in the β,β'-positions, which are trans orientated to each other. One cyclo-penta-dienyl ring and one ethyl group are each disordered over two positions with site-occupancy ratios of 0.679 (15):0.321 (15) and 0.702 (18):0.298 (18), respectively.
