Tris(N,N'-diisopropyl-benzamidinato)cerium(III).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Ce(C(13)H(19)N(2))(3)], was obtained in moderate yield (67%) by treatment of anhydrous cerium trichloride with three equivalents of Li[PhC(N(i)Pr)(2)] in tetra-hydro-furan. It is the first homoleptic lanthanide complex of this amidinate ligand. The central Ce(III) ion is coordinated by three chelating benzamidinate anions in a distorted octa-hedral fashion, with Ce-N distances in the narrow range 2.482?(2)-2.492?(2)?Å. The dihedral angles between the phenyl rings and the chelating N-C-N units are in the range 73.3-87.9°, thus preventing conjugation between the two ?-systems. The mol-ecule is located on a twofold rotation axis, and one of the phenyl rings is equally disordered over two alternative symmetry-equivalent positions around this axis.

Project description:The cations and anions of the title salt, 3C(6)H(16)N(+)·HSO(4) (-)·SO(4) (2-), are linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network. The hydrogensulfate ion, with a single S-O(H) bond of 1.563 (2) Å, forms a short O-H⋯O hydrogen bond [O⋯O = 2.609 (2) Å] to the sulfate ion. The hydrogensulfate ion accepts two hydrogen bonds from two cations, whereas the sulfate ion, as an acceptor, binds to four cations. The sulfate ion is disordered approximately equally over two sites related by rotation around one of the O-S bonds.

Project description:The polymeric title compound, [Ce(C(7)H(3)N(2)O(6))(3)(C(2)H(6)OS)(2)](n), exists as a linear chain along [111] as the three dinitro-benzoate anions each engages in bridging adjacent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) coordinated Ce(III) atoms. The metal atoms are surrounded by eight O atoms in a square-anti-prismatic environment. There are two independent formula units in the asymmetric unit. The S atoms of two of the four DMSO mol-ecules are disordered in a 0.926?(3):0.074?(3) ratio.

Project description:The chiral title compound, [CeNi6(C3H6NO2)12][Ce(NO3)3(OH)3(H2O)], comprises a complex heterometallic Ni/Ce cation and a homonuclear Ce anion. Both the cation and anion exhibit point group symmetry 3. with the Ce(III) atom situated on the threefold rotation axis. The cation metal core consists of six Ni(II) atoms coordinated in a slightly distorted octa-hedral N2O4 configuration by N and O atoms of 12 deprotonated l-alaninate ligands exhibiting both bridging and chelating modes. This metal-organic coordination motif encapsulates one Ce(III) atom that shows an icosa-hedral coordination by the O-donor atoms of the l-alaninate ligands, with Ce-O distances varying in the range 2.455 (5)-2.675 (3) Å. In the anion, the central Ce(III) ion is bound to three bidentate nitrate ligands, to three hydroxide ligands and to one water mol-ecule, with Ce-O distances in the range 2.6808 (19)-2.741 (2) Å. The H atoms of the coordinating water mol-ecule are disordered over three positions due to its location on a threefold rotation axis. Disorder is also observed in fragments of two l-alaninate ligands, with occupancy ratios of 0.608 (14):0.392 (14) and 0.669 (8):0.331 (8), respectively, for the two sets of sites. In the crystal, the complex cations and anions assemble through O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network with large voids of approximately 1020 Å(3). The contributions of highly disordered ethanol and water solvent mol-ecules to the diffraction data were removed with the SQUEEZE procedure [Spek (2015 ▸). Acta Cryst. C71, 9-18]. The given chemical formula and other crystal data do not take into account the unknown amount of these solvent mol-ecules.

Structure of tri-aqua-tris-(1,1,1-tri-fluoro-4-oxo-pentan-2-olato)cerium(III) as a possible fluorescent compound.

Project description:Luminescence due to the d-f transition of Ce3+ is quite rare in metal-organic complexes where concentrate quenching frequently occurs. One of the possible ways to avoid this is to design an architecture with elongated metal-metal distances. In the structure of the title complex, tri-aqua-tris-(1,1,1-tri-fluoro-4-oxo-pentan-2-olato-κ2O,O')cerium(III), [Ce(C5H4F3O2)3(H2O)3], the CeIII complex is linked to neighbouring ones by hydrogen bonding. Within the complex, the CeIII atom is coordinated by nine O atoms from three 1,1,1-tri-fluoro-4-oxo-pentan-2-olate (tfa) anions as bidentate ligands and three water mol-ecules as monodentate ligands. Thus, the coordination number of CeIII atom is nine in a monocapped square-anti-prismatic polyhedron. The F atoms of all three independent CF3 groups in tfa are disordered over two positions with occupancy ratios of about 0.8:0.2. The inter-molecular hydrogen bonds between the ligands involve tfa-water inter-actions along the [110] and [1-10] directions, generating an overall two-dimensional layered network structure. The presence of the F atoms in the tfa anion is responsible for an increased inter-molecular metal-metal distance compared to that in the analogous acetyl-acetonate (acac) derivatives. Fluorescence from Ce3+ is, however, not observed.

The bulky tripodal TRENDSAL ligand effectively encapsulates the central Ce(III) cation with a Ce-N(imine) distance of 2.860?(2)?Å and an average C-N(amine) distance of 2.619?Å within a distorted monocapped octahedral coordination.

Project description:In the structure of the title complex, {[CeFe(CN)(6)(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O}(n), the Ce(III) and Fe(III) atoms exhibit square anti-prismatic [CeN(6)(H(2)O)(2)] (site symmetry m2m) and octahedral [FeC(6)] (site symmetry 2/m) coordination geometries, respectively. The metal atoms are linked alternately through the cyanide groups, forming a three-dimensional framework in which the {Ce(2)Fe(2)(CN)(4)} puckered square unit is the basic building block. The crystal packing is enforced by O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds, including the uncoordinated water molecule which is located on a mirror plane.

The Ce(III) ion is 11-coordinated: three nitrate radical anions coordinate to the Ce(III) ion through O atoms, two HL ligands chelate the Ce(III) ion through the O atoms of the phenolate and meth-oxy groups, and one methanol mol-ecule coordinates to Ce(III) ion through its O atom. The O atom of one nitrate anion is disordered over two sites of equal occupancy. The protonated imine N atoms are involved in intra-molecular hydrogen bonds with the phenoxide groups. C-H?O inter-actions are also observed.
