[2,7-Dimethoxy-8-(4-methylbenzoyl)-1-naphthyl](4-methylphenyl)methanone.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(28)H(24)O(4), the two 4-methyl-benzoyl groups at the 1- and 8-positions of the naphthalene ring system are aligned almost anti-parallel, the dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings being 9.64?(7)°. The dihedral angles between the two phenyl rings and the naphthalene ring system are 71.82?(6) and 71.58?(6)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions between the carbonyl oxygen and aromatic hydrogen are observed.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(22)H(18)O(2), contains one half-mol-ecule, the complete mol-ecule being generated by the operation of a crystallographic twofold rotation axis. The carbonyl group and the two C atoms attached to it forms inter-planar angles of 23.67?(7)° with the methyl-substituted phenyl ring and 50.74?(8)° with the central ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into infinite chains along the b-axis direction by inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions, generating R(2) (2)(10) graph-set motifs.

Project description:The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(26)H(20)O(4), is located on a twofold rotation axis. The two benzoyl groups are situated in an anti orientation. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the phenyl ring and the naphthalene ring system is 80.25 (6)°. The phenyl and carbonyl groups in each benzoyl group are almost coplanar. The mol-ecular packing is stabilized by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and a π-π stacking inter-action between the phenyl rings [centroid-centroid and inter-planar distances of 3.6383 (10) and 3.294 Å, respectively].

[6]Cyclo-2,7-naphthyl-ene: a redetermination.

Project description:Single crystals of a macrocyclic hydro-carbon, [6]cyclo-2,7-naphthyl-ene ([6]CNAP, C(60)H(36)) were prepared from anthracene melt with a prolonged time for the recrystallization. The crystal of improved quality led to the correction of the space-group assignment to Cmca from [Formula: see text] in the original determination [Nakanishi et al. (2011 ?) Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.50, 5323-5326] and the refinement of anisotropic displacement parameters of all C atoms. The refined mol-ecular structure with C(2h) point symmetry indicated that the strain on the naphthyl rings of [6]CNAP is smallest among the congeners. Despite the large macrocyclic structure, mol-ecules are packed in a ubiquitous herringbone motif. A short C-C distance of 3.119?(4)?Å was found in the stacking direction, and a short C-H distance of 2.80?Å was found in the inter-columnar contact.

Project description:In the title compound, C(19)H(15)NO(5), the dihedral angle between the naphthalene ring system and the benzene ring is 61.97 (5)°. The dihedral between the naphthalene ring system and the bridging carbonyl C-C(=O)-C plane is 54.68 (6)°, far larger than that [12.54 (7)°] between the phenyl group and the bridging carbonyl group. The nitro group and the phenyl ring are almost coplanar [O-N-C-C torsion angle = 2.94 (19)°]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯π inter-actions and the phenyl rings are involved in a centrosymmetric π-π inter-action with a perpendicular distance of 3.523 Å and a lateral offset of 1.497 Å. In addition, weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are formed between an H atom of one meth-oxy group and a nearby carbonyl O atom.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(19)H(16)O(3), contains three independent conformers. Each of the three conformers has essentially the same feature of non-coplanar aromatic rings whereby the aroyl group at the 1-position of the naphthalene ring is twisted in a perpendicular manner to the naphthalene ring. The dihedral angles between the benzene ring planes and the naphthalene ring systems are 75.34 (7), 86.47 (7) and 76.55 (6)° in the three conformers. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.
