(7-Dimethylamino-1-hydroxy-3-naphthyl)(morpholino)methanone.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(17)H(20)N(2)O(3), the morpholine ring is in a slightly distorted chair form. The crystal structure is stabilized by an inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond between the H atom of the hydroxyl group and the O atom of a neighbouring carbonyl group. A weak inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-action is also present.

1,8-Bis(dimethylamino)naphthyl-2-ketimines: Inside vs outside protonation.

Project description:The structure and protonation behaviour of four ortho-arylketimines of 1,8-bis(dimethylamonio)naphthalene with a different number of methoxy groups in an aromatic substituent were investigated in solution by NMR (acetone, DMSO, MeCN), in solid state by X-ray analysis and in the gas phase by DFT calculations. Both mono- and diprotonated species were considered. It has been shown that E-isomers of neutral imines can be stabilised by an intramolecular C=N-H···OMe hydrogen bond with a neighbouring methoxy group. Electron-donating OMe groups dramatically increase the basicity of the imino nitrogen, forcing the latter to abstract a proton from the proton sponge moiety in monoprotonated forms. The participation of the out-inverted and protonated 1-NMe2 group in the Me2N-H···NH=C hydrogen bond is experimentally demonstrated. It was shown that the number and position of OMe groups in the aromatic substituents strongly affects the rate of the internal hindered rotation of the NH2 + fragment in dications.

Project description:In the title compound, C(28)H(24)O(4), the two 4-methyl-benzoyl groups at the 1- and 8-positions of the naphthalene ring system are aligned almost anti-parallel, the dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings being 9.64?(7)°. The dihedral angles between the two phenyl rings and the naphthalene ring system are 71.82?(6) and 71.58?(6)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions between the carbonyl oxygen and aromatic hydrogen are observed.

Design, Synthesis, and Herbicidal Activity Evaluation of Novel Aryl-Naphthyl Methanone Derivatives.

Project description:4-Hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) is one of the most vital targets for herbicides discovery. In search for HPPD inhibitors with novel scaffolds, a series of aryl-naphthyl methanone derivatives have been designed and synthesized through alkylation and Friedel-Crafts acylation reactions. The bioassay indicated some of these compounds displayed preferable herbicidal activity at the rate of 0.75 mmol/m2 by post-emergence application, in which compound 3h displayed the best herbicidal activity. The molecular docking showed that compound 3h could bind well to the active site of the AtHPPD. This study shows that aryl-naphthyl methanone derivatives could be a potential lead structure for further development of novel herbicides.

The morpholine ring atoms are disordered over two positions; the site-occupancy factors are ca 0.53 and 0.47. Inter-molecular C-H⋯F hydrogen bonding is found in the crystal structure. Furthermore, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N intra-molecular contacts are also present.
