Project description:In the title compound, C(6)H(16)N(+)·C(7)H(5)O(4) (-), the hy-droxy groups of the 3,4-dihy-droxy-benzoate anion form O-H?O hydrogen bonds to the carboxyl-ate groups of two adjacent anions, generating layers propagating in the ac plane. The triethyl-ammonium cations lie between these layers, forming N-H?O hydrogen bonds to the carboxyl-ate groups of the anions. The structure is consolidated by weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions.

The carboxyl-ate group and the hy-droxy group form O-H?O hydrogen bonds, generating a head-to-tail chain along the b axis. Neighbouring hydrogen-bonded chains are linked by the water mol-ecule, generating two independent O-H?O donor hydrogen bonds. The carboxyl-ate group thus constructs a hydrogen-bonded host layer parallel to (10[Formula: see text]). The tetra-ethyl-ammonium cation is contained between these layers, forming a sandwich-like structure with an approximate inter-layer distance of 10.03?Å.

Project description:The unit cell of the title compound, C(7)H(6)O(4)·H(2)O, features four independent formula units; the individual carb-oxy-lic acid mol-ecules themselves are nearly planar (r.m.s. deviations = 0.0189, 0.0334, 0.0356 and 0.0441 Å). Two independent mol-ecules each form two hydrogen bonds by acid-carbonyl O-H⋯O inter-actions and the dimers are also nearly planar (r.m.s. deviations = 0.039 and 0.049 Å). The two independent dimers are aligned at 44.5 (1)°. Other O-H⋯O inter-actions involving the hy-droxy groups and water mol-ecules give rise to a three-dimensional network.
