ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(10)H(24)N(+)·C(8)H(15)O(2) (-), forms a layered structure in which inter-molecular N(+)-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect anions and cations, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to (010). The n-alkyl chains of the decyl-ammonium cations pack according to an ortho-rhom-bic 'subcell' with approximate dimensions 5.1 × 7.3 Å, and they are significantly distorted from planarity.

Project description:A binary mixture of benzyl-amine and hexa-noic acid has been reacted to form the title salt, C(7)H(10)N(+)·C(6)H(11)O(2) (-). This crystal has a 1:1 stoichiometry of acid- and amine-derived species which contrasts with other related species which can have a number of other integer ratios of acid and amine components. The diffraction data indicate complete transfer of a proton from the acid to the amine to give the salt, comprising a cation and anion combination, with the formation of three hydrogen bonds around each ammonium group. This contrasts with other related species.

Project description:The title 1:1 stoichiometric salt, C7H10N(+)·C7H13O2 (-), is formed by proton transfer between hepta-noic acid and benzyl-amine. This combination contrasts to the recently published 2:1 acid-amine adduct of cation, anion and neutral acid molecule from the same components [Wood & Clarke (2013 ▶). Acta Cryst. E69, o346-o347]. There are N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds of moderate strength in the structure [the most important graph-set motifs are R (2) 4(8) and R (4) 4(12)], as well as weak C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Project description:In the title compound, (C12H25NH3)2[Cu(C6Cl2O4)2(C2H5OH)2], the Cu(II) atom lies on a crystallographic inversion center and is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry by four O atoms of two chloranilate ligands and two O atoms of two ethanol mol-ecules which are trans to each other in the axial positions. In the crystal, the Cu(II) mononuclear dianions are linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a tape along the a-axis direction. The tapes are linked through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the dianion and the n-do-decyl-ammonium cation, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane.

Kinetics and Thermodynamics Studies for Cadmium (II) Adsorption onto Functionalized Chitosan with Hexa-Decyl-Trimethyl-Ammonium Chloride.

Project description:A new adsorbent material was obtained by functionalization of chitosan with hexa-decyl-trimethyl-ammonium chloride and tested as an adsorbent for Cd(II) ions. Functionalization is due to the desire to improve the adsorbent properties of the biopolymer used for removal of metallic ions. Obtained material was characterized by FTIR (Fourier Transform InfraRed spectroscopy), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and EDX (Energy dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy). To prove the Cd(II) adsorption mechanism, we performed adsorption tests determining influence of biopolymer ratio, pH, contact time, temperature and Cd(II) initial concentration. Obtained experimental data were modeled using two kinetics models: pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. Cd(II) adsorption kinetics was better described by pseudo-second-order model. Further, experimental data were fitted using three different adsorption isotherms: Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips. The studied adsorption process is well described by the Sips adsorption isotherm, when the maximum adsorption capacity value is near the experimental one. Likewise, we evaluated the values of thermodynamic parameters which indicate that the studied process is an endothermic and spontaneous one, being a physical adsorption. Prepared adsorbent materials have a maximum adsorption capacity of 204.3 mg Cd2+ per gram at pH > 4.0 and 298 K. In addition, this material was reused for Cd2+ recovery for 20 times.

The torsion angles in the aliphatic chain between the carbonyl group C atoms range from 172.97 (14) to 179.38 (14)° and the r.m.s. deviation of all non-H atoms is 0.059 Å. The crystal packing is dominated by two strong N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the amide groups and forming R(2) (2)(8) rings and C(4) chains. Overall, a two-dimensional network parallel to (100) is formed. A weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-action is also present.
