A synopsis of East-Mediterranean Synaphris Simon, 1894 (Araneae, Synaphridae) with a description of a new species from Israel.

ABSTRACT: Three species of Synaphris occurring in the East Mediterranean - Synaphris orientalis Marusik & Lehtinen, 2003, Synaphris lehtineni Marusik, Gnelitsa & Kovblyuk, 2005 and Synaphris letourneuxi (Simon, 1884) - are surveyed; and a new species - Synaphris wunderlichisp. n. - is described from southern Israel on the basis of males. The new species differs from other East- Mediterranean congeners by its smaller size, a smaller lamella with fewer ridges, and a thick palpal femur. Comparative figures are provided for all species from the East Mediterranean.

Project description:Dasumia gasparoisp. n. isdescribed based on specimens of both sexes. The new species is compared with the similar Dasumia crassipalpis (Simon, 1882), described from Syria; and with Dasumia mariandyna Brignoli, 1979, the only previously known species of the genusrecordedfrom Turkey. Furthermore, we point out that, due to some contradictions to the original description of the genus, Dasumia mariandyna may necessarily belong to another genus. Detailed morphological descriptions, diagnosis and figures of the copulatory organs of the new species are presented.

A review of Solenysa spiders from Japan (Araneae, Linyphiidae), with a comment on the type species S.mellotteei Simon, 1894.

Project description:The present paper gives a review of Solenysa species from Japan and provides a solution for the species bearing the generotype name Solenysamellotteei Simon, 1894. A total of six species are recorded, including two new species Solenysamacrodonta sp. n. and Solenysatrunciformis sp. n. The species collected from Kawasaki (NSMT-Ar 11154) and Hachioji should be the generotype Solenysamellotteei, with Solenysaakihisai Tu, 2011, syn. n. as its junior synonym. To distinguish these congeneric species from each other, their genital characters are provided in detail based on images collected by scanning electron microscopy and light microscopy.

Descriptions of two new species of Aelurillus Simon, 1884 (Araneae, Salticidae) from the Mediterranean, with the synonymization of A.steliosi Dobroruka, 2002.

Project description:Two Aelurillus species are described as new, Aelurillusalboclypeus sp. n. (♂♀, from Turkey) and Aelurillusdeltshevi sp. n. (♂, from Macedonia, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan). Aelurillussteliosi Dobroruka, 2002 is synonymized with Aelurillusleipoldae (Metzner, 1999). Additional distributions of the closely related species Aelurillusv-insignitus are provided for the region of study. Distributional maps are provided for the five species reported in this paper.

The first Western Palearctic record of Euprosthenops Pocock (Araneae, Pisauridae), with description of a new species from Israel.

Project description:The primarily Afrotropical genus Euprosthenops Pocock, 1897 is recorded in the Western Palearctic for the first time. A diagnosis and an illustrated description of E.insperatus sp. nov., based on a single male from southern Israel, are provided. Considering the structure of the male palp, the holotype of E.insperatus sp. nov. resembles males of two widespread African species, E.australis Simon, 1898 and E.proximus Lessert, 1916; it differs from them by colouration pattern as well as by the different shapes of the retrolateral tibial apophysis and the palpal sclerites. A short survey of the regional insect and spider genera of the paleotropical origin is also presented.

Fourteen new species of the spider genus Psiloderces Simon, 1892 from Southeast Asia (Araneae, Psilodercidae).

Project description:The genus Psiloderces Simon, 1892 is the second largest genus of Psilodercidae, a family restricted to Asia, occurring from East India to the Philippines. Fourteen new species of Psiloderces from Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam are described: P. heise sp. nov. (??), P. gawanaensis sp. nov. (??), P. bontocensis sp. nov. (?), P. cuyapoensis sp. nov. (??), P. xichang sp. nov. (??), P. cattienensis sp. nov. (??), P. pingguo sp. nov. (??), P. palopoensis sp. nov. (??), P. penajamensis sp. nov. (?), P. grohotensis sp. nov. (??), P. bangkiraiensis sp. nov. (??), P. bolang sp. nov. (??), P. wangou sp. nov. (??), and P. malinoensis sp. nov. (??). Types are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZCAS) in Beijing.

Description of a new troglomorphic species of Charinus Simon, 1892 from Brazil (Arachnida, Amblypygi, Charinidae).

Project description:Charinus taboa sp. n. comprises the twenty-second species of the genus described for Brazil. The new species belongs to the eastern Brazilian group, in which all species have sucker-like gonopods. Charinus taboa sp. n. has a marked sexual dimorphism in the pedipalps as do other members of the genus in the country. The description of Charinus taboa sp. n. offers an opportunity to discuss some aspects of ecology, troglomorphism and conservation within the genus. A key to the eastern Brazilian species of Charinus is provided.

Project description:The species of Braunsia Kriechbaumer, 1894 (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Doryctinae) from China are revised and ten species are recognized. Salticidae (Arachnida, Araneae) of Thailand: new species and records of Epeus Peckham & Peckham, 1886 and Ptocasius Simon, 1885.

Project description:The study is based on new material from the collections of the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre in Leiden (RNHM) and the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM) and addresses issues in two genera: Epeus Peckham & Peckham, 1886 and Ptocasius Simon, 1885 from Thailand. Both genera are of Asian/Indomalayan origin, the latter with a diversity hotspot in the subtropical valleys of the Himalayas. Based on morphological data, we propose three new species of Epeus (Epeus daiqini sp. nov. (??), Epeus pallidus sp. nov. (?), Epeus szirakii sp. nov. (?)) and two new species of Ptacasius (Ptocasius metzneri sp. nov. (??) and Ptocasius sakaerat sp. nov. (?)). Additionally, we redescribed E. tener (Simon, 1877) and added photographs of morphological characters. The genus Ptocasius is redefined due to the inclusion of 37 species, previously included in Yaginumaella Prószy?ski, 1979. Relationships and distribution of both genera are discussed in reference to molecular, morphological and distributional data, published by other authors in recent years.
