New species of Rogmocrypta Simon, 1900 from New Caledonia, with remarks on relationships and distribution (Araneae, Salticidae).

ABSTRACT: Five new species of Rogmocrypta: R. karolinae (?), R. koniambo (?), R. patryki (?), R. raveni (?), and R. rollardae (?) are diagnosed, described, and illustrated. The definition of the genus is ammended and its distribution and relationships are discussed.

Charippus yinae sp. nov. is the second species of the genus Charippus Thorell, 1895, which was previously known only from one sex.

Two new species of Yaginumaella, Proszynski 1976 from Yunnan, China (Araneae, Salticidae).

Project description:The present paper deals with two new species of Yaginumaella, Yaginumaella lushuiensissp. n. (female and male) and Yaginumaella pseudoflexasp. n. (female and male). The male of Yaginumaella lushuiensissp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella flexa Song & Chai, 1992 in ventral view of palpal organ. The female of Yaginumaella lushuiensissp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella urbanii Żabka, 1981 by: 1) hoods locate at the anterior area of epigynum and far away from the copulatory openings; 2) epigynum about circular; 3) copulatory openings transverse. The male of Yaginumaella pseudoflexasp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella bulbosa Peng, Tang & Li, 2008 in ventral view of palpal organ: 1) basal portion of embolus touches the margin of genital bulb. 2) distal portion of tibial apophysis covers the posterior margin of cymbium and far away from the margin of genital bulb. The female of Yaginumaella pseudoflexasp. n. differs from the related species Yaginumaella urbanii Żabka, 1981 by: epigynum about as long as wide; hoods locate at the anterior area of the epigynum, above the outside area of the copulatory openings and far away from the copulatory openings. Photos of body and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs, as well as the locality map are provided. Descriptions of morphology are given.

Project description:Two new genera and eight new species of jumping spiders from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) are diagnosed, described, and illustrated. The new genera are Dendroicius gen. nov. (type species D. hotaruae sp. nov. (??)) and Megaeupoa gen. nov. (type species M. yanfengi sp. nov. (??)). The new species are Colyttus yiwui sp. nov. (??), Euophrys xuyei sp. nov. (??), Foliabitus weihangi sp. nov. (??), Nigorella mengla sp. nov. (??), Onomastus chenae sp. nov. (??), and Synagelides platnicki sp. nov. (??). A new combination is proposed: Megaeupoa gravelyi (Caleb, 2018), comb. nov., ex Brettus Thorell, 1895. Two new synonyms have been proposed: Irura prima (?abka, 1985), syn. nov. with Irura mandarina Simon, 1903; Evarcha digitata Peng & Li, 2002, syn. nov. with Ptocasius montiformis Song, 1991.

New species of Habronattus and Pellenes jumping spiders (Araneae, Salticidae, Harmochirina).

Project description:The harmochirine jumping spiders include the New World Habronattus, notable for their complex courtship displays, and Pellenes, found throughout the Old World and North America. Five new species of Habronattus and one new species of Pellenes are here described from North America: Habronattus aestus, sp. n., Habronattus chamelasp. n., Habronattus empyrussp. n., Habronattus luminosussp. n., Habronattus robertisp. n., and Pellenes canadensissp. n. For each of the new species, photographs of living specimens are given, as well as notes on habitat. The new subgenus Pellenattus is described for the subgroup of Pellenes restricted to North America, with type species Pellenes peninsularis Emerton, 1925. Species placed in Pellenes (Pellenattus) are Pellenes apacheus Lowrie & Gertsch, 1955, Pellenes canadensissp. n., Pellenes crandalli Lowrie & Gertsch, 1955, Pellenes dorsalis (Banks, 1898b), Pellenes grammaticus Chamberlin 1925, Pellenes levii Lowrie & Gertsch, 1955, Pellenes limatus Peckham & Peckham, 1901, Pellenes longimanus Emerton, 1913, Pellenes peninsularis Emerton, 1925, Pellenes shoshonensis Gertsch, 1934, and Pellenes washonus Lowrie & Gertsch, 1955. Pellenes wrighti Lowrie & Gertsch, 1955 is synonymized with Pellenes peninsularis. Attention is drawn to an undescribed species of Habronattus from Canada whose only known specimen is apparently lost.

Four new species of the jumping spider genus Portia (Araneae, Salticidae) from China.

Project description:We diagnose and describe four new species of Portia Karsch, 1878 and describe for the first time the male of P.zhaoi Peng, Li & Chen, 2003 from China based on morphological characters. The females of Portiabawang sp. nov. have the narrowest epigyne orifice. The males of Portiaerlangping sp. nov. have the shortest embolus among all the species. The females of Portiafajing sp. nov. can be distinguished from other species by the anterior orifice margin, which is nearly parallel to the posterior orifice margin. The males of Portiaxishan sp. nov. can be identified by the tegular furrow which extends to form a membrane and by the tegular apophysis which is obscured; the females of Portiaxishan sp. nov. can be diagnosed by the slit-like epigynal orifice. The males of P.zhaoi have the longest embolus among all the species, and females can be diagnosed by the circular epigyne orifice and the longest copulatory ducts. To facilitate future identification, we also provide the GenBank accession codes of the DNA barcode gene, Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), for all the type specimens.

Two new jumping spider species of the Habronattus clypeatus group (Araneae, Salticidae, Harmochirina).

Project description:Two species of the Habronattus clypeatus species group are described, Habronattus arcalorussp. n. from Texas and Colorado, and Habronattus gilaensissp. n. from New Mexico. Habronattus arcalorus males have extravagant ornamentation: a green first leg with an unusually dense lateral fringe of orange and white hairs, and a large grey triangular patella on the third leg with blue-white scales nearby. Habronattus gilaensis males are considerably more muted, lacking ornamentation on the third leg's patella and tibia. Photographs of living specimens are given, as well as notes on habitat.

Thirteen species of jumping spiders from northern Vietnam (Araneae, Salticidae)

Project description:Abstract A new genus and thirteen species of jumping spiders from northern Vietnam are reported. Zabkagen. nov. is erected to accommodate two species transferred from Euophrys Blackwall,1841, including the generotype, Z.cooki (Żabka, 1985), comb. nov., and Z.xuyei (Lin & Li, 2020), comb. nov. Twelve new species are described: Chinattuscrewsaesp. nov. (♂♀), C.logunovisp. nov. (♂♀), Eupoamaidinhyenisp. nov. (♂♀), E.maddisonisp. nov. (♂♀), E.ninhbinhsp. nov. (♂), E.zabkaisp. nov. (♂♀), Indopadillacucsp. nov. (♂♀), Synagelidesanisp. nov. (♂♀), S.miisp. nov. (♂♀), S.pengisp. nov. (♀), S.sanchasp. nov. (♂♀), and Yaginumaellahagiangsp. nov. (♂). Depreissia decipiens, an enigmatic canopy spider from Borneo revisited (Araneae, Salticidae), with remarks on the distribution and diversity of canopy spiders in Sabah, Borneo.

Project description:Depreissia is a little known genus comprising two hymenopteran-mimicking species, one found in Central Africa and one in the north of Borneo. The male of Depreissia decipiens is redescribed, the female is described for the first time. The carapace is elongated, dorsally flattened and rhombus-shaped, the rear of the thorax laterally depressed and transformed, with a pair of deep pits; the pedicel is almost as long as the abdomen. The male palp is unusual, characterized by the transverse deeply split membranous tegulum separating a ventral part which bears a sclerotized tegular apophysis and a large dagger-like retrodirected median apophysis. The female epigyne consists of one pair of large adjacent spermathecae and very long copulatory ducts arising posteriorly and rising laterally alongside the spermathecae continuing in several vertical and horizontal coils over the anterior surface. Relationships within the Salticidae are discussed and an affinity with the Cocalodinae is suggested. Arguments are provided for a hypothesis that Depreissia decipiens is not ant-mimicking as was previously believed, but is a mimic of polistinine wasps. The species was found in the canopy in the Kinabalu area only, in primary and old secondary rainforest at 200-700 m.a.s.l. Overlap of canopy-dwelling spider species with those in the understorey are discussed and examples of species richness and endemism in the canopy are highlighted. Canopy fogging is a very efficient method of collecting for most arthropods. The canopy fauna adds an extra dimension to the known biodiversity of the tropical rainforest. In southeast Asia, canopy research has been neglected, inhibiting evaluation of comparative results of this canopy project with that from other regions. More use of fogging as a collecting method would greatly improve insight into the actual species richness and species distribution in general.
