ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(11)H(8)O(3), was isolated from Impatiens balsamina plants (balsam, LIB) grown in our laboratory. The two six-membered rings of the naphthalene-1,4-dione unit are coplanar [maximum deviation = 0.009?(1)?Å]. The O and C atoms of the meth-oxy substituent also lie close to the naphthalene plane, with deviations of 0.0090?(2) and 0.047?(2)?Å, respectively.

Project description:The title naphthalene derivative, C24H20O2, features 4-methy-oxy-substituted benzene rings in the 1 and 4 positions of the naphthalene ring system. There are two crystallographically independent mol-ecules (A and B) in asymmetric unit. The independent mol-ecules have very similar conformations in which the naphthalene ring systems are only slightly bent, exhibiting dihedral angles between the constituent benzene rings of 3.76 (15) and 3.39 (15)° for A and B, respectively. The pendent 4-methyoxybenzene rings are splayed out of the plane through the naphthalene ring system to which they are connected [range of dihedral angles = 59.63 (13) to 67.09 (13)°]. In the crystal, the mol-ecular packing is consolidated by inter-molecular C-H⋯π inter-actions, leading to supra-molecular chains along the b axis. The chains assemble without directional inter-actions between them.

This dimeric unit is linked to a neighbouring dimer by π-π stacking inter-actions between the naphthoquinone rings, where the distance between the mean plane of the naphtoquinone backbones is 3.468 Å, and O-H⋯O-C hydrogen bonds.

The mol-ecular structure suggests that the meth-oxy groups in the 1- and 5-positions of the naphthalene moiety do not significantly distort the planar conformation of the ring system, which has a maximum deviation of 0.0025?(9)?Å. In the crystal, mol-ecules pack in a herringbone arrangement in layers parallel to (100) and with chains propagating along [101] formed by very weak C-H?O inter-actions.

Project description:The title compound, C13H8O3, crystallizes in two polymorphs, namely the monoclinic (space group P21/c) and triclinic (space group P?) forms, obtained from N,N-di-methyl-formamide and isopropyl alcohol solutions, respectively. The mol-ecular structures and conformations in the two forms are essentially the same as each other. The naphtho-quinone ring systems are essentially planar with r.m.s. deviations of 0.015 and 0.029?Å for the monoclinic and triclinic forms, respectively. The O-propargyl groups are coplanar with the naphtho-quinone units with r.m.s deviations ranging from 0.04 to 0.09?Å. In the monoclinic crystal, mol-ecules are linked via pairs of C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a tape structure running along [120]. The tapes are further linked by a C-H?? inter-action into a layer parallel to the ab plane. Adjacent layers are linked by another C-H?? inter-action. In the triclinic crystal, mol-ecules are linked via C-H?O and ?-? inter-actions, forming a layer parallel to the ab plane. Adjacent layers are linked by a C-H?? inter-action.

The five-membered substituted pyrrole ring adopts an approximate envelope conformation, while the seven-membered substituted diazepine ring displays a twist-boat conformation. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding helps to stabilize the crystal structure.

Project description:The title compound, C18H14Cl2O4, adopts a Z conformation around the cental C=C bond. The two aromatic rings of the mol-ecule are nearly perpendicular to each other, with a dihedral angle between of 86.22 (14)°. The meth-oxy substituents lie close to the plane of the attached benzene rings. The C(ar)-C(ar)-O-C(Me) torsion angles are -2.4 (7) and 7.5 (6)°. Weak C-H⋯O inter-actions link the mol-ecules forming a three-dimensional network. The crystal packing also displays short [3.160 (3) Å] Cl⋯O halogen-bonding contacts between mol-ecules related by the screw axis. The structure exhibits disorder of one carbonyl O atom with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.21 (6):0.79 (6).

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C11H9NO3, contains two mol-ecules, A and B. In mol-ecule A, the dihedral angle between the planes of the naphthalene ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.003 Å) and the nitro group is 89.9 (2)°, and the C atom of the meth-oxy group deviates from the naphthyl plane by 0.022 (2) Å. Equivalent data for mol-ecule B are 0.008 Å, 65.9 (2)° and -0.198 (2) Å, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming [100] chains of alternating A and B mol-ecules. Weak aromatic π-π stacking contacts, with a range of centroid-centroid distances from 3.5863 (9) to 3.8048 (9) Å, are also observed.
