Effect of folic acid on methotrexate induction of sulfotransferases in rats.


ABSTRACT: Our earlier investigation showed that MTX is an inducer of rat and human sulfotransferases. Here we report that folic acid treatment inhibited MTX induction of aryl sulfotransferase (AST-IV) in female rat liver and hydroxysteroid sulfotransferase (STa) in male rat liver. This is important for understanding the clinical mechanisms of MTX.
