ER resident glycoproteins, including ectopically expressed recombinant glycoproteins, carry so-called high-mannose type N-glycans, which can be at different stages of processing. The presence of heterogeneous high-mannose type glycans on ER-retained therapeutic proteins is undesirable for specific therapeutic applications.
