Project description:Allylic amines are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and exist in bioactive compounds, but their synthesis via hydroaminoalkylation of alkynes with amines has been a formidable challenge. Here, we report a late transition metal Ni-catalyzed hydroaminoalkylation of alkynes with N-sulfonyl amines, providing a series of allylic amines in up to 94% yield. Double ligands of N-heterocyclic carbene (IPr) and tricyclohexylphosphine (PCy3) effectively promote the reaction.

Copper-Mediated Radiofluorination of Arylstannanes with [<sup>18</sup>F]KF.

Project description:A copper-mediated nucleophilic radiofluorination of aryl- and vinylstannanes with [18F]KF is described. This method is fast, uses commercially available reagents, and is compatible with both electron-rich and electron-deficient arene substrates. This method has been applied to the manual synthesis of a variety of clinically relevant radiotracers including protected [18F]F-phenylalanine and [18F]F-DOPA. In addition, an automated synthesis of [18F]MPPF is demonstrated that delivers a clinically validated dose of 200 ± 20 mCi with a high specific activity of 2400 ± 900 Ci/mmol.

In?Situ Study on Ni-Mo Stability in a Water-Splitting Device: Effect of Catalyst Substrate and Electric Potential.

Project description:Nickel-molybdenum (Ni-Mo) alloys are well studied as highly effective electrocatalyst cathodes for water splitting. Understanding deactivation pathways is a key to improving the performance of these catalysts. In this study, in?situ characterization by UV/Vis spectroscopy and AFM of the morphology and Mo leaching of an Ni-Mo electrocatalyst was performed with the goal of understanding the stability and related Mo leaching mechanism. Switching the potential towards higher overpotentials results in a nonlinear change in Mo leaching. Multiple processes are proposed to take place, such as a decrease in the extent of Mo oxidation at the cathode induced by more strongly reducing potentials, while simultaneously the increase in the local pH at the cathode due to the hydrogen evolution reaction causes more Mo leaching. The change in capacitance of these materials depends strongly on the change in surface composition and not only on the surface area. In?situ UV/Vis spectroscopy showed that Mo leaching is a continuous process over the course of 4?h of operation. Finally, the material was deposited on different substrates and the effect on Ni-Mo stability was studied. The substrate has a significant, albeit complex, influence on the stability and activity of Ni-Mo cathodes. In terms of stability in 1?m KOH, Ni-Mo was found to be best deposited on stainless steel substrates operated at low overpotentials, on which it showed nearly no change in capacitance and exhibited low Mo leaching.

Enhancing hydrogenation activity of Ni-Mo sulfide hydrodesulfurization catalysts.

Project description:Unsupported Ni-Mo sulfides have been hydrothermally synthesized and purified by HCl leaching to remove Ni sulfides. Unblocking of active sites by leaching significantly increases the catalytic activity for dibenzothiophene hydrodesulfurization. The site-specific rates of both direct (hydrogenolytic) and hydrogenative desulfurization routes on these active sites that consist of coordinatively unsaturated Ni and sulfhydryl groups were identical for all unsupported sulfides. The hydrogenative desulfurization rates were more than an order of magnitude higher on unsupported Ni-Mo sulfides than on Al2O3-supported catalysts, while they were similar for the direct (hydrogenolytic) desulfurization. The higher activity is concluded to be caused by the lower average electronegativity, i.e., higher base strength and polarity, of Ni-Mo sulfides in the absence of the alumina support and the modified adsorption of reactants enabled by multilayer stacking. Beyond the specific catalytic reaction, the synthesis strategy points to promising scalable routes to sulfide materials broadly applied in hydrogenation and hydrotreating.

Project description:In the title compound, [BaCl(C(12)H(24)O(6))(H(2)O)(3)]Cl, the Ba(II) atom, the coordinating and free Cl(-) anions, one coordinating water mol-ecule and two O atoms of an 18-crown-6 mol-ecule lie on a mirror plane. The environment of the ten-coordinate Ba(2+) ion is defined by one Cl atom, three water mol-ecules and six O atoms from the macrocyclic ether. The macrocycle adopts a conformation with an approximate D(3d) symmetry. In the crystal, O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds link the complex cations and Cl(-) anions into a two-dimensional network parallel to (010). An intra-molecular O-H?Cl hydrogen bond is also present.

Bis-silylation of internal alkynes enabled by Ni(0) catalysis.

Project description:1,2-Bis-silyl alkenes have exciting synthetic potential for programmable sequential synthesis via manipulation of the two vicinal silyl groups. Transition metal-catalyzed bis-silylation of alkynes with disilanes is the most straightforward strategy to access such useful building blocks. However, this process has some limitations: (1) symmetric disilanes are frequently employed in most of the reactions to assemble two identical silyl groups, which makes chemoselective differentiation for stepwise downstream transformations difficult; (2) the main catalysts are low-valent platinum group transition metal complexes, which are expensive; and (3) internal alkynes remain challenging substrates with low inherent reactivity. Thus, the development of abundant metal-catalyzed bis-silylation of internal alkynes with unsymmetrical disilanes is of significance. Herein, we solve most of the aforementioned limitations in bis-silylation of unsaturated bonds by developing a strongly coordinating disilane reagent and a Ni(0) catalytic system. Importantly, we sufficiently realize the stepwise recognition of the two silyl groups, making this synthetic protocol of wide potential utility.
