ABSTRACT: In the title hydrate, C(17)H(17)ClN(2)O(2)·H(2)O, the dihedral angles formed by the aromatic rings of the chloro-benzene and methyl-benzene groups with the mean planes of their attached NH-C(O)-CH(2) fragments are 16.6?(2) and 22.8?(2)°, respectively. In the crystal, O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds link the components into a two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane.

The conformations of the amide O atoms are anti to the methyl-ene atoms. Further, the N-H bonds in the amide fragments are anti to the ortho-chloro/methyl groups in the adjacent benzene rings. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the NH-C(O)-CH(2) segment in the two halves of the mol-ecule is 62.0?(2)°. In the crystal, a series of N-H?O inter-molecular hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into column-like infinite chains along the a axis. The methyl and Cl groups are disordered with respect to the ortho positions of the benzene ring, with site-occupation factors of 0.5 each.

There are two crystallographically independent mol-ecules (A and B) and two water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound. Inter-molecular C-H?Cl (× 2), C-H?F, and C-H?N (× 2) hydrogen bonds generate S(5) ring motifs. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 8.17?(11)°. The F atoms in mol-ecule B are disordered over four positions with refined site-occupancies of ca 0.35/0.19/0.29/0.17 for the four components. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are arranged into one-dimensional extended chains along the c axis and are further stacked along the a axis by directed four-membered O-H?O-H inter-actions, forming two-dimensional networks parallel to the ac plane. The short distances between the centroids of the benzene rings (3.8002-3.8327?Å) indicate the existence of ?-? inter-actions. In addition, the crystal structure is further stabilized by N-H?O, O-H?N (× 4), N-H?Cl and C-H?O (× 2) hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.
