ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Fe(4)(C(6)H(6)NS)(CH(3)S)S(CO)(11)], com-prises two butterfly-shaped sub-cluster cores, Fe(2)S(2)N and Fe(2)S(2), joined together by a spiro-type ?(4)-S atom. The (pyridin-2-yl)methane-thiol-ate ligand is attached to the Fe(2)(CO)(5) unit in a ?-?N:?(2)S mode, and the methane-thiol-ate ligand is coordinated to the Fe(2)(CO)(6) unit in a ?-?(2)S fashion.

Project description:The title compound, [Fe(4)(C(5)H(5)OS)(2)S(CO)(12)], was prepared by the direct reaction of Fe(3)(CO)(12) and 2-furyl-methane-thiol in tetra-hydro-furan. Desulfurization took place readily to form an Fe(4)S(3) cluster. The mol-ecule consists of two similar [(?-2-C(4)H(3)O-CH(2)S)Fe(2)(CO)(6)] moieties joined to a spiro-type four-coordinate ?(4)-S atom such that this bridging sulfur is tetra-hedrally coordinated to the four Fe atoms. In each diiron subcluster core, the 2-furyl-methane-thiol-ate ligand bridges the two Fe atoms.

The independent Fe(2)S(2) fragment [Fe-Fe = 2.527?(1)?Å] is in a butterfly conformation, and each Fe atom displays a pseudo-square-pyramidal coordination geometry. The phosphane group occupies an apical position [Fe-P = 2.2670?(14)?Å]. In the crystal, weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along [110].

Project description:The trinuclear title compound, [Fe3(C3H6S2)2(CO)7], is a mixed-valent Fe(I)/Fe(II) complex and crystallizes with two mol-ecules of similar configuration in the asymmetric unit. The three Fe atoms in each mol-ecule display a bent arrangement [Fe-Fe-Fe = 156.22 (4) and 157.06 (3)°]. Both outer Fe(I) atoms are six-coordinated in a distorted ocahedral coordination geometry defined by the bridging Fe(II) atom, three carbonyl C atoms and two bridging S atoms. The coordination number of the central Fe(II) atom is seven and includes bonding to the two outer Fe(I) atoms, four bridging S atoms and one carbonyl C atom. The resulting coordination polyhedron might be described as a highly distorted monocapped trigonal prism. In the crystal packing, the mol-ecules exhibit a chain-like arrangement parallel to [100] and [001], and the resulting layers are stacked along [010]. The cohesion of the structure is dominated by van der Waals inter-actions.

Project description:The title compound, [Fe(2)(C(14)H(10)NS(2))(2)(CO)(6)], was synthesized as a structural and biochemical model for the active site of [FeFe]-hydrogenase. The bond lengths (Fe-Fe, Fe-S and Fe-C) and angles (C-Fe-Fe and Fe-S-Fe) are within expected ranges. The S?S distance [2.9069?(12)?Å] and the dihedral angle between two Fe-S-Fe planes [78.5?(3)°] of the butterfly-shaped Fe(2)S(2) core are enlarged compared with related bridged dithiol-ate diiron analogues. The calculated 4-benzothia-zolebenzyl best planes are almost parallel [dihedral angle = 3.7?(7)°].

Project description:A reversible covalent bond exchange of thiols, ?-sulfido-?,?-unsaturated carbonyls, and dithianes has been studied in DMSO and D(2)O/DMSO mixtures. The equilibrium between thiols and ?-sulfido-?,?-unsaturated carbonyls is obtained within a few hours, while the equilibration starting with the ?-dithiane carbonyls and thiols requires a few days. This time scale makes the system ideal for utilization in dynamic combinatorial chemistry.

The two complex cations have similar conformations with the butterfly-like Fe4S4 core surrounded by two penta-methyl-cyclo-penta-dienyl ligands and the S atoms of two dithiol-ate ligands. In each Fe4S4 core, there are four short Fe-Fe and two long Fe?Fe contacts, suggesting bonding and non-bonding inter-actions, respectively. The Fe-S distances range from 2.1287?(13) to 2.2706?(16)?Å for one and from 2.1233?(13) to 2.2650?(16)?Å for the other Fe4S4 core. The Fe-S distances involving the dithiol-ate ligands are in a more narrow range [2.1764?(16)-2.1874?(13)?Å for one and 2.1743?(14)-2.1779?(16)?Å for the other cation]. There are no significant inter-actions between cations and anions.

Bis(2-mercaptoeth-yl)-1,3-propane-dithio ether nickel(II) was firstly introduced into [Fe2(C3H6S2)(CO)5] as an S-containing ligand. It coordinates with two [Fe2(C3H6S2)(CO)5] groups, and a five-metal core complex is formed. The Fe2S2 core is in a butterfly conformation. The Fe-Fe distances in the [Fe2(C3H6S2)(CO)5] groups are 2.5126?(6) and 2.5086?(7)?Å. The distances between the adjacent Fe and Ni atoms are 3.5322?(1) and 3.5143?(1)?Å. There are intra-molecular C-H?O and C-H?S contacts present in the complex. In the crystal, the five metal cores are linked via C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming columns lying parallel to (110). The di-chloro-methane solvent mol-ecules are each partially disordered over two positions and only one is linked to the five-metal core complex by a C-H?O hydrogen bond.

There are two independent cation-anion complex entities in the asymmetric unit. Bond distances are normal for this type of complex [ranges: Mo-S = 2.193?(2)-2.390?(2); Cu-S = 2.266?(2)-2.470?(2); Cu-C = 1.899?(7)-1.911?(9)?Å]. One of the thiol-ato C atoms is disordered over two sites in a 0.52?(3):0.48?(3) ratio.
