ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(17)H(12)N(2), comprises a norbornane unit having a dicyanona-phthalene ring fused on one side. Both cyano groups are twisted slightly out of the plane of the naphthalene ring system [C-C-C-C torsion angle = 1.9 (2)°]. In the crystal, inversion-related mol-ecules are linked by pairs of weak C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming dimers.

Project description:In the title compound, C10H6F2N4, the Car-N bonds are slightly shortened with respect to a standard aniline C-N bond [1.3580?(16) and 1.3618?(16) versus 1.39?Å], thus indicating some ?-? conjgation with the electron-acceptor CN groups. The mol-ecule, except for two C atom of the ethyl-ene bridge, is nearly planar, the largest deviation of the other non-H atoms from the mean plane being 0.309?(2)?Å. The N-C-C-N torsion angle involving the ethyl-ene bridge is 50.23?(18)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected by pairs of N-H?N hydrogen bonds into chains along [21-1].

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(13)NO(2), represents a conformationally restricted 2-pyridone analogue of 1,4-dihydro-pyridine-type calcium antagonists and was selected for a crystal structure determination in order to explore some aspects of drug-receptor inter-action. In the mol-ecule, two stereogenic centres are of opposite chirality, whereas a racemate occurs in the crystal. It was found that the formally aminic N atom of the heterocycle is essentially sp(2)-hybridized with the lone-pair electrons partially delocalized through conjugation with the adjacent carbonyl bond. As a result, the central pyridone ring assumes an unsymmetrical half-chair conformation. The critical 4-phenyl ring is fixed in a pseudo-axial and perpendicular orientation [dihedral angle 85.8?(1)°] with respect to the pyridone ring via an oxygen bridge. In the crystal a pair of centrosymmetric N-H?O hydrogen bonds connect mol-ecules of opposite chirality into a dimer. The dimers are packed by hydrophobic van der Waals inter-actions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(12)H(17)NO(3), contains two mol-ecules with different conformations. It is a polymorph of the monoclinic form [El Antri et al. (2004 ?). Mol-ecules, 9, 650-657]; the samples were crystallized at different temperatures from the same solvent. In both structures, mol-ecules are linked by O-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming chains. The conformations of the chains and their packing differ markedly in the two polymorphs.

The N-heterocycle in the structure adopts a half-chair conformation. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 77.29 (13)°. There are three ill-resolved water molecules of crystallization in the structure (one of them rotationally disordered about a threefold axis) involved in short contacts probably due to hydrogen bonding.
