Project description:The title compound, C(9)H(4)F(6)O(2), contains two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, one of which exhibits disorder in both of its trifluoro-methyl groups. The dihedral angles between the benzene ring and the carboxyl group are 71.5 (2) and 99.3 (2)° in the two independent mol-ecules. The compound exhibits a catemeric structure resulting from inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding between the carboxyl groups.

Project description:The title compound, C(10)H(10)O(4), crystallizes with the well-known carb-oxy-lic acid dimer-forming R(2) (2)(8) hydrogen-bond motif. Chains approximately parallel to (-1-12) are then built through C(methyl-ene,phen-yl)-H⋯O(carbon-yl) inter-actions [C(6) and C(8) motifs] with one (meth-yl)C-H⋯π inter-action providing inter-planar binding. The weakness of the latter inter-action is consistent with the difficulty experienced in obtaining suitable single crystals.

Project description:Single crystals of the title compound, C19H16N2O4, were obtained under hydro-thermal conditions by an unintended recrystallization of the employed microcrystalline starting material. The [(pyridin-4-yl)meth-oxy]benzoic acid unit is nearly planar, with a maximum deviation from the least-squares plane of 0.194?(2)?Å. This plane is inclined by 35.82?(6)° to that defined by the second (pyridin-4-yl)meth-oxy group [in which the largest deviation from the least-squares plane is 0.013?(2)?Å]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by O-H?N hydrogen bonds involving the acid hy-droxy group and a pyridine N atom into chains parallel to [-201].

Project description:The title compounds, both C8H4F3NO4, represent two isomers of nitro tri-fluoro-methyl benzoic acid. The compounds each contain a nitro functionality para to the carb-oxy-lic acid group, with the tri-fluoro-methyl substituent ortho to the acid group in the 2-isomer and ortho to the nitro group in the 3-isomer. The regiochemistry with respect to the tri-fluoro-methyl group results in steric inter-actions that rotate the carb-oxy-lic acid group or the nitro group out of the aromatic plane in the 2- and 3-isomer, respectively. Each mol-ecule engages in inter-molecular hydrogen bonding, forming head-to-tail dimers with graph-set notation R 2 2(8) and donor-acceptor hydrogen-bonding distances of 2.7042 (14) Å in the 2-isomer and 2.6337 (16) in the 3-isomer. Recrystallization attempts did not yield untwinned crystals.
