This study examined the frequency and types of complications with peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) placed in immunocompetent pediatric patients for parenteral antimicrobial therapy. It also sought to determine risk factors associated with those complications. Complications occurred at a frequency of 19.3/1000 PICC days, and greater than 30% of PICCs developed at least one complication.
