N,N-Dimethyl-4-[(E)-2-(3,6,7-tribromo-9-butyl-9H-carbazol-2-yl)ethen-yl]aniline.

ABSTRACT: In the title mol-ecule, C(26)H(25)Br(3)N(2), a dihedral angle of 6.15?(10)° is present between the carbazole and benzene ring systems with an E conformation about the C=C bond [1.335?(4)?Å]. The butyl group is almost perpendicular to the carbazole plane [C-N-C-C torsion angle = -98.7?(3)°]. In the crystal, supra-molecular double chains along [-7,18,-16] are formed via C-H?Br and ?-? inter-actions [centroid(carbazole five-membered ring)?centroid(carbazole six-membered ring) distance = 3.6333?(13)?Å].

Project description:In the title compound, C27H29BrN2, the carbazole ring system is essentially planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.0781?(16)?Å. An intra-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bond forms an S(6) ring motif. One of the tert-butyl substituents shows rotational disorder over two sites with occupancies of 0.592?(3) and 0.408?(3). In the crystal, two mol-ecules are associated into an inversion dimer through a pair of C-H?? inter-actions. The dimers are further linked by another pair of C-H?? inter-actions, forming a ribbon along the c-axis direction. A C-H?? inter-action involving the minor disordered component and the carbazole ring system links the ribbons, generating a network sheet parallel to (100).

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(25)H(20)N(4), the triazinyl ring is nearly coplanar with the planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.028 Å) phenyl-ethenyl unit, the twist being only 5.8 (2)°; however, the planar carbazolyl unit (r.m.s. deviation = 0.008 Å) is twisted by 47.8 (1)° with respect to the phenyl-ethenyl unit. The nonplanar nature of the mol-ecule explains the phenomenon of light emission at short wavelengths in the solid state but at long wavelengths in solution.
