4,4'-Bipyrid-yl-4,4'-(hy-droxy-methyl-ene)dibenzoic acid (1/1).

ABSTRACT: In the title 1:1 co-crystal, C(10)H(8)N(2)·C(15)H(12)O(5), strong inter-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonds link alternating mol-ecules of 4,4'-(hy-droxy-methyl-ene)dibenzoic acid and 4,4'-bipyridyl into zigzag chains in [501]. The crystal packing also exhibits ?-? inter-actions between the 4,4'-bipyridyl rings of neighbouring chains [centroid-centroid distance = 3.608?(3)?Å] and weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving carboxyl groups, forming one-dimensional ladders. Two-dimensional layers are formed by inter-penetration of these one-dimensional ladders.

Project description:The asymmetric unit in the title compound, C24H26N2O3, comprises two independent mol-ecules (A and B). In molecule A, the central 2-hydroxyphenyl ring is inclined to the mean plane of the major component of the imidazolidine ring by 84.52?(14)°, and by 68.08?(9) and 47.48?(9)° to the outer phenol rings. The later are inclined to one another by 66.76?(9)° and by 78.12?(14) and 80.20?(14)° to the imidazoline ring mean plane. In molecule B, the central 2-hydroxyphenyl ring is inclined to the mean plane of the imidazolidine ring by 73.64?(10)°, and by 75.60?(8) and 38.32?(9)° to the outer phenol rings. The later are inclined to one another by 69.47?(9)° and by 82.60?(10) and 64.26?(10)° to the imidazolidine ring mean plane. In each of the independent mol-ecules, two intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond form S(6) ring motifs. In disordered mol-ecule A, the O-H groups of the 2-hy-droxy-benzyl groups are also involved in intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds, with the O atom of the hy-droxy-phenyl group acting as the acceptor. In the crystal, A molecules are linked by pairs of O-H?O hydrogen bonds forming inversion dimers. These dimers are linked to the B molecules via O-H?O hydrogen bonds forming double-layered slabs lying parallel to the bc plane.

Project description:In the title compound, C(28)H(18)O(4)·2C(3)H(7)NO, the dihedral angle between the benzene rings and the anthracene system is 74.05?(12)°. A crystallographic inversion centre is located in the middle of the anthracene unit. The dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules are partially disordered over two positions of approximately equal occupancy [0.529?(6):0.471?(6)]. Inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds with the major occupancy formamide O atom as acceptor result in the formation of 2:1 solvate-complex aggregates, which are alternately linked to shorter solvate units via weak inter-molecular C-H?O contacts generated from the rotational disorder of the formamide O atom (minor occupancy component). Weak C-H?? inter-actions between the solvent mol-ecules as the donor and the outer anthracene rings support these contacts in the crystal structure for both disorder components.

Project description:The molecular conformation of the title compound, C(25)H(15)NO(8), is stabilized by strong intramolecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, resulting in the formation of S(1) (1)(7) ring motifs. In the crystal, π-π stacking inter-actions are observed between adjacent nitrobenzene and pyranone rings with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.513 (12) Å. The dihedral angles between the nitrobenzene ring and the coumarin ring systems are 65.61 (8) and 66.11 (8)° while the coumarin ring systems are inclined at 65.69 (8)°.

The C-O bond of the hy-droxy group subtends an angle of 31.71?(10)° with the plane through the central aromatic ring. The crystal packing is mediated by the presence of several O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions and while the water mol-ecules form a C(2) (1)(4) chain parallel to the c axis of the unit cell, the pendant hy-droxy groups are engaged in O-H?O=C hydrogen bonds described by a C(1) (1)(12) graph-set motif which runs parallel to the a axis.

Project description:There are three independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(9)H(11)NO(3), which are connected by O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming an R(3) (3)(15) ring. The dihedral angles between the planes of the benzene and amide groups are 75.16?(3), 71.47?(3) and 70.56?(3)°. The hy-droxy O atom lies 0.912?(3), 1.172?(2) and 1.339?(2)?Å from the mean plane of the corresponding benzene ring in the three mol-ecules.
