(1S,5R,7R,30S)-14-De-oxy-isogarcinol.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(38)H(50)O(5) {systematic name: 10-(3-hy-droxy-benzo-yl)-2,2,7,7-tetra-methyl-3,6,8-tris-(3-methyl-but-2-en-yl)-3,4,4a,5,6,7-hexa-hydro-4a,8-methano-2H-cyclo-octa-[b]pyran-9,11(8H)-dione}, is a polyisoprenylated benzophenone, isolated for the first time from the fruits of Garcinia indica during our investigation of bioactive compounds from this plant and their large-scale extraction. The relative configuration of the title compound was chosen based on comparison of its spectroscopic and optical rotation data with that of the isomorphous and isostructural compound isogarcinol, whose absolute configuration is known. The crystal packing features O-H?O hydrogen bonds. A Cambridge Structural Database analysis revealed that the crystal structure reported here is isomorphous and isostructural with that of isogarcinol.

Two crystallographycally independent carb-oxy-lic acid groups on adjacent C atoms are in equatorial positions, resulting in a mutually trans conformation. In the crystal, O-H?O hydrogen bonds around an inversion centre and a threefold rotoinversion axis, respectively, form an inversion dimer with an R 2 (2)(8) motif and a trimer with an R 3 (3)(12) motif.

Project description:The title compound, C16H24Br2O, was synthesized from the reaction of β-himachalene (3,5,5,9-tetra-methyl-2,4a,5,6,7,8-hexa-hydro-1H-benzo-cyclo-heptene), which was isolated from Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) essential oil, after reaction with di-bromo-carbene. The asymmetric unit contains two independent mol-ecules with similar conformations. Each mol-ecule is built up from fused six-and seven-membered rings and two three-membered rings. In both mol-ecules, the six-membered ring has an envelope conformation with the flap provided by the C atom of the ep-oxy ring, whereas the seven-membered ring displays a chair conformation. The crystal packing is governed only by van der Waals inter-actions. The absolute configuration was established from anomalous dispersion effects.

Project description:The title compound, C(20)H(26)O(4), was extracted from Leucas Urticifolia, a wild Lamiaceae herb distributed in the Punjab, Baluchistan, Sindh and the Rajputana desert of Pakistan. The plant is utilized for various medicinal applications by the local community. The title compound is based on the pimarane-diterpene skeleton. The mol-ecule exhibits an ep-oxy ring fused to momilactone-A, leading to a penta-cyclic mol-ecular structure. The absolute configuration was assigned by comparison with the crystal structure of momilactone, but needs further verification. The crystal structure is governed by four inter-molecular hydrogen-bond inter-actions of the C-H⋯O type.

Project description:In the title compound, C13H14O5, the furan ring is essentially planar [maximum deviation = 0.031?(3)?Å] with a stereogenic center (R) at the sp (3) hybridized C atom. The C atom bearing the dihy-droxy ethyl group is S. The absolute configuration is based on the precursor in the synthesis. The two O-H groups are in an anti conformation with respect to each other. The mean plane of the furan-one group is twisted by 8.2?(4)° from that of the phenyl ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving furan-one C=O groups and symmetry-related hy-droxy groups, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to (001). Weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed within the two-dimensional network.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, known as quinine sulfate dihydrate, 2C(20)H(25)N(2)O(2) (+)·SO(4) (2-)·2H(2)O, was previously reported by Mendel [Proc. K. Ned. Akad. Wet. (1955), 58, 132-134], but only the [010] projection was determined. Hence, we have redetermined its crystal structure at 100 K using three-dimensional data. The asymmetric unit consists of a quininium cation, viz. (R)-(6-meth-oxy-quinolinium-4-yl)[(1S,2S,4S,5R)-5-vinyl-quinuclid-in-ium-2-yl]methanol, one half of a sulfate anion and a water mol-ecule. The S atom occupies a special position on a twofold axis. The packing is characterized by infinite columns, consisting of sulfate anions and water mol-ecules, linked through hydrogen bonds along the b axis, and further stabilized by hydrogen bonds to quininium cations. The quininium cations inter-act further through C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π inter-actions.
