ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(20)H(19)O(4), the benzene rings, linked via five methyl-ene C atoms, form a dihedral angle of 77.28?(6)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via pairs of weak C-H?O inter-actions [graph set R(2) (2)(6)] into dimers that are further connected by additional weak C-H?O interactions [graph sets R(2) (2)(14), R(2) (2)(26) and R(2) (2)(6)].

The mol-ecule is essentially planar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.017?(1)?Å for all non-H atoms. The mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions to form a mol-ecular sheet parallel to the ([Formula: see text]02) plane.

Project description:The title compound, C(18)H(18)O(5), was obtained by the reaction of 4-hy-droxy-benzaldehyde with bis-(2,2-dichloro-eth-yl) ether in dimethyl-formamide. In the crystal, the mol-ecule lies on a twofold rotation axis that passes through the central O atom of the aliphatic chain, thus leading to one half-mol-ecule being present per asymmetric unit. The carbonyl, aryl and O-CH(2)-CH(2) groups are almost coplanar, with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.030?Å. The aromatic rings are approximately perpendicular to each other, forming a dihedral angle of 78.31?sh;H?O hydrogen bonds and C-H?? inter-actions help to consolidate the three-dimensional network.

In the crystal of the triclinic polymorph, molecules are linked by two pairs of C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to (102), and enclosing loops with graph set motifs of R2(2)(8) and R2(2)(6).

Project description:The title compound, C14H12O3, was synthesized via the nucleophilic addition of 4-meth-oxy-phenol to 4-fluoro-benzaldehyde. The dihedral angle between the least-squares planes of the benzene rings is 71.52 (3)° and the C-O-C angle at the central O atom is 118.82 (8)°. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules to generate supra-molecular layers in the bc plane. The layers are linked by weak C-H⋯π inter-actions.
