Complete genome sequence of the pyrene-degrading bacterium Cycloclasticus sp. strain P1.

ABSTRACT: Cycloclasticus sp. strain P1 was isolated from deep-sea sediments of the Pacific Ocean and characterized as a unique bacterium in the degradation of pyrene, a four-ring polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). Here we report the complete genome of P1 and genes associated with PAH degradation.

During metabolism of fluorinated alkanes, strain 273 releases inorganic fluoride and synthesizes fluorinated phospholipids. The complete genome sequence consists of a circular 7.48-Mb chromosome with a G+C content of 67.5%, containing 6,890 genes.

Complete genome sequence of the lignin-degrading bacterium Klebsiella sp. strain BRL6-2.

Project description:In an effort to discover anaerobic bacteria capable of lignin degradation, we isolated Klebsiella sp. strain BRL6-2 on minimal media with alkali lignin as the sole carbon source. This organism was isolated anaerobically from tropical forest soils collected from the Bisley watershed at the Ridge site in the El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, USA, part of the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research Station. At this site, the soils experience strong fluctuations in redox potential and are characterized by cycles of iron oxidation and reduction. Genome sequencing was targeted because of its ability to grow on lignin anaerobically and lignocellulolytic activity via in vitro enzyme assays. The genome of Klebsiella sp. strain BRL6-2 is 5.80 Mbp with no detected plasmids, and includes a relatively small arsenal of genes encoding lignocellulolytic carbohydrate active enzymes. The genome revealed four putative peroxidases including glutathione and DyP-type peroxidases, and a complete protocatechuate pathway encoded in a single gene cluster. Physiological studies revealed Klebsiella sp. strain BRL6-2 to be relatively stress tolerant to high ionic strength conditions. It grows in increasing concentrations of ionic liquid (1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium acetate) up to 73.44 mM and NaCl up to 1.5 M.

Project description:Here, we present the complete genome sequence of Azoarcus sp. strain DN11, a denitrifying bacterium capable of anaerobic benzene degradation. The DN11 genome is 4,956,835 bp long with a G+C content of 66.3%. Genome analysis suggested the possibility that DN11 utilizes three proposed pathways for anaerobic benzene degradation, namely, methylation, hydroxylation, and carboxylation pathways.

Here, we report the complete genome sequence of the γ-HCH-degrading bacterium Sphingomonas sp. strain MM-1, which consists of one chromosome and five plasmids. All the specific lin genes that are almost identical to those of Sphingobium japonicum UT26 for the conversion of γ-HCH to β-ketoadipate are dispersed on four out of the five plasmids.

Project description:Caballeronia sp. strain NK8 grows on 3-chlorobenzoate and shows chemotaxis toward 3-chlorobenzoate and its degradation products, such as chlorocatechols. Complete genome sequencing revealed a 9.2-Mb genome consisting of three chromosomes and four plasmids. The genes for degradation of 3-chlorobenzoate and chlorocatechols were located on plasmids pNK81 and pNK84, respectively.
