Complete Genome Sequence of Bisphenol A-Degrading Bacterium Sphingobium sp. Strain A3, Isolated from Contaminated Soil.

ABSTRACT: This study reports the complete genome sequence of bisphenol A-degrading bacterium Sphingobium sp. strain A3, which was isolated from a contaminated soil sample from the site of a factory fire in South Korea. The genome consists of a 6.53-Mbp chromosome and eight plasmid contigs (532,947 bp), with 6,406 protein-coding sequences and a GC content of 63.82%.

Flavobacterium petrolei sp. nov., a novel psychrophilic, diesel-degrading bacterium isolated from oil-contaminated Arctic soil.

Project description:This study presents taxonomic description of two novel diesel-degrading, psychrophilic strains: Kopri-42T and Kopri-43, isolated during screening of oil-degrading psychrotrophs from oil-contaminated Arctic soil. A preliminary 16S rRNA gene sequence and phylogenetic tree analysis indicated that these Arctic strains belonged to the genus Flavobacterium, with the nearest relative being Flavobacterium psychrolimnae LMG 22018T (98.9% sequence similarity). The pairwise 16S rRNA gene sequence identity between strains Kopri-42T and Kopri-43 was 99.7%. The DNA-DNA hybridization value between strain Kopri-42T and Kopri-43 was 88.6?±?2.1% indicating that Kopri-42T and Kopri-43 represents two strains of the same genomospecies. The average nucleotide identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain Kopri-42T and nearest relative F. psychrolimnae LMG 22018T were 92.4% and 47.9%, respectively. These values support the authenticity of the novel species and confirmed the strain Kopri-42T belonged to the genus Flavobacterium as a new member. The morphological, physiological, biochemical and chemotaxonomic data also distinguished strain Kopri-42T from its closest phylogenetic neighbors. Based on the polyphasic data, strains Kopri-42T and Kopri-43 represents a single novel species of the genus Flavobacterium, for which the name Flavobacterium petrolei sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is Kopri-42T (=KEMB 9005-710T?=?KACC 19625T?=?NBRC 113374T).

Arthrobacter nitrophenolicus sp. nov. a new 2-chloro-4-nitrophenol degrading bacterium isolated from contaminated soil.

Project description:Strain SJConT, a 2-chloro-4-nitrophenol (2C4NP) degrading bacterium, was isolated from soil collected from a pesticide-contaminated site in Punjab, India. The strain, which stained Gram positive, displayed a rod-coccus life cycle, and possessed a type A3? peptidoglycan (L-Lys-L-Ala3), MK-9(H2) as the major menaquinone, anteiso-C15 and iso-C15:0 as the major cellular fatty acids, and diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol and a glycolipid as the major polar lipids, showed morphological and chemotaxonomic properties consistent with those reported for members of the genus Arthrobacter. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain SJConT confirmed that it was a member of this genus with Arthrobacter globiformis DSM 20124T being the closest relative (sequence similarity of 97 %). The DNA G + C content of strain SJConT was 69 ± 1 mol% and DNA homology with A. globiformis DSM 20124T was 45 %, suggesting that strain SJConT represented a novel species of the genus Arthrobacter, which we have named Arthrobacter nitrophenolicus sp. nov The type strain is SJConT (=MTCC 10104T =DSM 23165T).

Project description:A bacterial strain designated Ca6T was isolated from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-contaminated soil from the site of a former manufactured gas plant in Charlotte, NC, USA, and linked phylogenetically to the family Rhodocyclaceae of the class Betaproteobacteria. Its 16S rRNA gene sequence was highly similar to globally distributed environmental sequences, including those previously designated 'Pyrene Group 1' demonstrated to grow on the PAHs phenanthrene and pyrene by stable-isotope probing. The most closely related described relative was Sulfuritalea hydrogenivorans strain sk43HT (93.6?% 16S rRNA gene sequence identity). In addition to a limited number of organic acids, Ca6T was capable of growth on the monoaromatic compounds benzene and toluene, and the azaarene carbazole, as sole sources of carbon and energy. Growth on the PAHs phenanthrene and pyrene was also confirmed. Optimal growth was observed aerobically under mesophilic temperature, neutral pH and low salinity conditions. Major fatty acids present included summed feature 3 (C16?:?1?7c or C16?:?1?6c) and C16?:?0. The DNA G+C content of the single chromosome was 55.14? mol% as determined by complete genome sequencing. Due to its distinct genetic and physiological properties, strain Ca6T is proposed as a member of a novel genus and species within the family Rhodocyclaceae, for which the name Rugosibacter aromaticivorans gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the species is Ca6T (=ATCC TSD-59T=DSM 103039T).
