Bone (or body) morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) belong to the TGFβ superfamily and are crucial for embryonic patterning and organogenesis as well as for adult tissue homeostasis and repair. Activation of BMP receptors by their ligands leads to induction of several signaling cascades.
