ABSTRACT: The dinuclear title compound, [Co(2)Cl(3)(C(6)H(4)NO(2))(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)(C(2)H(5)OH)], contains two six-coordinate Co(II) atoms with different octa-hedral coordination environments. One Co(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from one pyridine-2-carbaldehyde oxime ligand, by one terminal and one bridging Cl(-) ion, by one O atom from an ethanol mol-ecule, and by one O atom from a bridging pyridine-2-carboxyl-ate (picolinate) anion. The second Co(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from another pyridine-2-carbaldehyde oxime ligand, one N and one O atom from the bridging picolinate anion, and by one terminal Cl(-) and one bridging Cl(-) anion. The structure displays intra-molecular O-H?O and O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. Weak C-H?Cl hydrogen-bonding inter-actions connect the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the reaction of pyridine-2-carb-oxy-lic acid and stannic chloride in the presence of 2-methyl-8-hy-droxy-quinoline, the 2-methyl-8-hy-droxy-quinoline is protonated, yielding the title salt, (C(10)H(10)NO)[SnCl(4)(C(6)H(4)NO(2))]. The Sn(IV) atom in the anion is N,O-chelated by a pyridine-2-carboxyl-ate in a cis-SnNOCl(4) octa-hedral geometry. The cation is linked to the anion by an O-H⋯O hydrogen bond.

The two Ce(III) atoms are bridged by 5-hy-droxy-benzene-1,3-di-carboxyl-ate ligands acting in a bis-bidentate coordination mode, generating infinite chains along [101]. Both independent metal atoms are nine-coordinated, one by four O atoms from the carboxyl-ate groups of two bridging 5-hy-droxy-benzene-1,3-di-carboxyl-ate ligands and five O atoms from water mol-ecules, generating a tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. The coordination around the second Ce(III) atom is similar, except that one of the water mol-ecules is replaced by an O atom from an additional 5-hy-droxy-benzene-1,3-di-carboxyl-ate ligand acting in a monodentate coordination mode and forming a capped square-anti-prismatic geometry.

The resulting coordination polyhedron is a near regular ZnN(2)O(3) trigonal bipyramid, with the N atoms in axial sites. The 4,4'-bpy mol-ecules [dihedral angle between the aromatic rings = 17.2?(2)°] act as bridges, connecting the metal ions into an infinite polymeric chain propagating in [[Formula: see text]01]. O-H?O hydrogen bonds help to consolidate the packing.
