ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(C(10)H(7)O(4))(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Co(II) ion is located on a crystallographic centre of symmetry and is six-coordinated by two N atoms from two 1,2-bis-(4-pyrid-yl)ethane ligands, two carboxylate O atoms from two 1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-1-isobenzofuran-acetate ligands and two terminal water ligands. The 1,2-bis(4-pyrid-yl)ethane ligands act as bidentate ligands, and bridge the Co(II) ions into infinite chains extending parallel to [010]. In these chains, there are intra-mol-ecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the coordination water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate groups. Inter-mol-ecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the adjacent chains and ??? stacking inter-actions result in the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:The title compound, {[Cd(CH(3)COO)(2)(C(20)H(16)N(6)S(2))]·3H(2)O}(n), exists as a one-dimensional zigzag polymer in which the Cd(II) ion shows a seven-coordinate [CdO(5)N(2)] distorted penta-gonal-bipyramidal geometry with the N atoms in axial positions and an N-Cd-N angle of 176.94?(13)°. The metal atoms are bridged by 1,2-bis-[4-(pyridin-3-yl)pyrimidin-2-ylsulfan-yl]ethane ligands, giving a polymeric chain extending along the b axis. Adjacent chains related by an inversion center are further bridged by Cd-O bonds formed between the O atom of one of the acetate ligands and the metal atom. The five Cd-O bond lengths are in the range 2.329?(3)-2.485?(3)?Å. There are ?-? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of adjacent polymeric chains, the centroid-centroid distances being 3.556?(3) and 3.698?(3)?Å, organizing the chains into a three-dimensional framework. This framework is additionally stabilized by extensive O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonding between water mol-ecules and the ligands.

Project description:The reaction of manganese seleno-cyanate with 1,2-bis-(pyridin-4-yl)ethane (bpa) leads to the title compound, {[Mn(NCSe)2(C12H12N2)(CH3OH)2]·C12H12N2} n . The Mn(II) cation is coordinated by two N-bonded seleno-cyanate anions, two bpa ligands and two O-bonded methanol mol-ecules, within a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Mn(II) cations and the non-coordinating N-donor ligands are located on centers of inversion while the coordinating N-donor co-ligands are located on a twofold rotation axis. In the crystal, the Mn(II) cations are linked into chains along the c-axis direction by the bpa ligands. The chains are further connected via a non-coordinating bpa ligand into layers parallel to (3-10) via O-H?N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.
