ABSTRACT: The structure of the title manganese complex, [Mn(NO3)2(C5H5N)2(H2O)2], consists of discrete monomeric entities with Mn(2+) ions located on centres of inversion. The metal cation is octahedrally coordinated by a trans-N2O4 donor set with the pyridine N atoms located in the apical positions. Discrete mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds into one-dimensional supra-molecular infinite chains along the b and c axes.

Project description:The molecular title compound, [MnCl(2)(C(5)H(5)N)(2)(H(2)O)(2)], lies about an inversion centre. The Mn(II) atom is in an all-trans octa-hedral environment defined by two water mol-ecules, two chloride anions and two pyridine ligands. An inter-molecular hydrogen-bonding inter-action between a water mol-ecule and a chloride anion bonded to an adjacent Mn(II) atom generates an eight-membered ring. The crystal packing exhibits two inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.485?(12) and 3.532?(12)?Å.

Project description:There are two crystallographically independent complex mol-ecules with very similar geometries in the unit cell of the title compound, [Mn(C(6)H(4)NO(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·0.5C(3)H(7)NO. The central ion is situated in a distorted octa-hedral environment of two N- and four O-donor atoms from two pyridine-2-carboxyl-ate ligands and two cis-disposed water mol-ecules. The carboxyl-ate ligands are coordinated in a chelate fashion with the formation of two five-membered rings. In the crystal, the complex mol-ecules are connected by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecules and the uncoordinated carboxyl-ate O atoms, thus forming hydrogen-bonded walls disposed perpendicularly to the bc plane.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(2)(C(8)H(3)NO(6))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)], the Mn(II) atom in the centrosymmetric binuclear unit has a distorted octa-hedral geometry and is coordinated by a chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two monodentate carboxyl-ate anions from two 4-nitro-phthalates and two coordinated water mol-ecules. The two Mn(II) ions in the mol-ecule are bridged by two 4-nitro-phthalate anions, both in a bis-monodentate mode, which finally leads to the formation of the binuclear unit. Intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated and uncoordinated O atoms of one monodentate carboxyl-ate group and the corresponding coordinated water mol-ecules result in an eight-membered and two six-membered rings. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the dinuclear mol-ecules into supra-molecular chains propagating parallel to [100].

The nitrate anion is disordered about a twofold rotation axis with fixed occupancy factors of 0.5.
