ABSTRACT: The title layered polymer, [Co(N3)2(C7H10N2)2] n , contains Co(II), azide and 4-(dimethyl-amino)-pyridine (4-DMAP) species with site symmetries m2m, 2 and m, respectively. The Co(2+) ion adopts an octa-hedral coordination geometry in which four N atoms from azide ligands lie in the equatorial plane and two 4-DMAP N atoms occupy the axial positions. The Co(II) atoms are connected by two bridging azide ligands, resulting in a chain parallel to the c axis.

This architecture is further stabilized by a number of N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds involving the protonated charge-compensating dimethyl-amine cations and chloride atoms.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the binuclear title complex, [Co(N(3))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), each Co(II) cation is coordinated by two N atoms from one chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and four azide ligands in a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination. The two Co(II) cations of the binuclear complex are related by an inversion centre and are bridged by two symmetry-related azide ligands in both ?(1,1) and ?(1,3) modes. The ?(1,3) bridging mode gives rise to an infinite one-dimensional chain along the a axis, whereas the ?(1,1) bridging mode is responsible for the formation of the binuclear Co(II) complex.

Project description:The environment of the Co(II) ion in the title compound, [Co(SO(4))(C(6)H(7)N)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](n), exhibits an octa-hedral configuration with the two 3-methyl-pyridine ligands lying in cis positions with respect to each other and trans to the two coordinated water mol-ecules. The axial positions are occupied by O atoms of the sulfate ions. Co and S atoms occupy special positions (twofold axis, Wyckoff position 4c). Neighboring Co(II) ions are covalently connected with each other through the sulfate ions, thus creating infinite polymeric chains that run along the c axis. The water mol-ecules are connected with neighboring sulfate ions through strong O-H?O hydrogen bonds. Intra-molecular hydrogen bonds parallel to the propagation direction of the chains stabilize the polymeric chains, and inter-molecular hydrogen bonds between chains connect neighboring chains with each other, thus leading to polymeric double chains.

Project description:Single crystals of the title organic-inorganic hybrid, {(C(5)H(7)N(2))(2)[MnCl(2)(H(2)O)(2)]Cl(2)}(n), were synthesized from an ethanol solution containing manganese(II) chloride tetra-hydrate and 4-amino-pyridine under acidic conditions. The asymmetric unit contains a disordered organic cation (occupancies in the ratio 0.72:0.28), a chloride anion and an MnCl(H(2)O) moiety with the Mn(II) atom located on an inversion center. The structure is built up of infinite chains of edge-sharing [MnCl(4)(H(2)O)(2)] octa-hedra developing parallel to the a axis which are separated by the 4-amino-pyridinium ions and discrete chloride ions. The organic cations occupy the empty space around each inorganic chain. Structural cohesion is organized through N-H?Cl and O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, which build up a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title polymeric complex, [Co(NCS)(2){SC(NH(2))(2)}(2)](n), the asymmetric unit comprises a Co(II) ion, which is situated on an inversion centre, an N-bound thio-cyanate anion and a ?(2)-bridging thio-urea mol-ecule. The Co(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral fashion within an N(2)S(4) donor set. The bridging thio-urea ligands link Co(II) ions into a polymeric chain extending along [100]. The mol-ecular conformation is stabilized by intra-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bonds, which generate S(6) ring motifs. The crystal packing is stabilized by N-H?S inter-actions, which connect the chains into a three-dimensional architecture.
