ABSTRACT: Peptidoglycan hydrolases are an effective new source of antimicrobials. A chimeric fusion protein of the Ply187 endopeptidase domain and LysK SH3b cell wall-binding domain is a potent agent against Staphylococcus aureus in four functional assays.
