4-Hydroxyacids are ubiquitous in human physiology. They are derived from the drugs of abuse gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), gamma-hydroxypentanoate(GHP), in addition to the omnipresent lipid peroxidation product 4-hydroxy-2-(E)-nonenal (4-HNE).
