Draft genome sequence of atrazine-utilizing bacteria isolated from Indian agricultural soil.

ABSTRACT: We report the draft genome sequences of two tropical bacterial isolates capable of degrading the herbicide atrazine. Alcaligenes sp. strain EGD-AK7 and Arthrobacter sp. strain AK-YN10 were isolated from Indian agricultural soil in which sugarcane is grown, with a reported history of atrazine use. EGD-AK7 has the atzABCDEF genes and AK-YN10 has the trzN and atzBC genes for atrazine degradation.

The genome was sequenced using the Illumina MiSeq platform, de novo assembled using SeqMan NGen, and annotated at NCBI. The genome sequence revealed genes for laccase and lignocellulose degradation enzymes.

Draft genome sequence of Bacillus pumilus strain EZ-C07 isolated from digested agricultural wastes.

Project description:ObjectivesBacillus species, belonging to the family Bacillaceae, are rod-shaped aerobic or facultative anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria that can be isolated from various environmental niches. Bacillus pumilus strains are resistant to unfavorable conditions such as UV, H2O2 and chemical disinfection. Furthermore, B. pumilus strains synthesize multifarious important enzymes and can be used in the production of some fermented foods, bioremediation of wastewater systems and biodegradation of environmental contaminants. Hence, investigation at the genomic level is required to understand their ecology, genetics and potential applications.Data descriptionIn this research, we provide the genomic insights into one Bacillus species (EZ-C07) isolated from digested agricultural waste materials. The draft genome of the strain EZ-C07 consists of 3,724,869 bp with 3890 coding sequences and 41.5% G + C content. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis followed by in silico DNA-DNA hybridization studies, the strain EZ-C07 was identified as Bacillus pumilus belonging to the family Bacillaceae within the phylum Firmicutes. The whole genome shotgun project of B. pumilus strain EZ-C07 can be accessed at DDBJ/ENA/GenBank under the Accession QLVI00000000.

Project description:Serratia marcescens SSA1 was isolated from a dump site with a history of incineration. Its DNA of 5.05 Mbp has a GC content of 59.65%, with 77 tRNA genes and 3 rRNA genes. Its 4,909 putative PATRIC protein-coding genes include genes responsible for the degradation of dioxins and other xenobiotics and total consumption of benzoate.
