ABSTRACT: We announce the complete genome sequence of a lytic podovirus, ?CB2047-B, which infects the bacterium Sulfitobacter sp. strain 2047, a member of the Roseobacter clade. Genome analysis revealed ?CB2047-B to be an N4-like phage, with its genome having high nucleotide similarity to other N4-like roseophage genomes.

Project description:Sulfitobacter sp. strain AM1-D1, a toxic bacterium of the family Rhodobacteraceae, was isolated from the cultivable phycosphere microbiota of marine toxigenic dinoflagellate Alexandrium minutum amtk4. The complete 4.69-Mb genome comprises one single circular chromosome and five circular plasmids. It has 4,559 coding genes, including those for biosynthesis or degradation of saxitoxin and bioactive exopolysaccharides.

Project description:Bacteriophage P26218 is a virus that thrives in freshwater and infects Rhodoferax sp. strain IMCC26218, both of which were isolated from Soyang Lake, Korea. The bacterial host, IMCC26218, belongs to the genus Rhodoferax and is closely related to R. saidenbachensis, with 98.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. Bacteriophage P26218 has an icosahedral head structure with a diameter of ~52 nm and short tail of ~9 nm, which is a typical morphology of the Podoviridae family. Its complete dsDNA genome was 36,315 bp with 56.7 % G?+?C content. This is the first genome sequence reported for a lytic phage of the genus Rhodoferax.

Complete genome sequence of the lytic Pseudomonas fluorescens phage ?IBB-PF7A.

Project description:BACKGROUND: Phage ?IBB-PF7A is a T7-like bacteriophage capable of infecting several Pseudomonas fluorescens dairy isolates and is extremely efficient in lysing this bacterium even when growing in biofilms attached to surfaces. This work describes the complete genome sequence of this phage. RESULTS: The genome consists of a linear double-stranded DNA of 40,973 bp, with 985 bp long direct terminal repeats and a GC content of approximately 56%. There are 52 open reading frames which occupy 94.6% of the genome ranging from 137 to 3995 nucleotides. Twenty eight (46.7%) of the proteins encoded by this virus exhibit sequence similarity to coliphage T7 proteins while 34 (81.0%) are similar to proteins of Pseudomonas phage gh-1. CONCLUSIONS: That this phage is closely related to Pseudomonas putida phage gh-1 and coliphage T7 places it in the "T7-like viruses" genus of the subfamily Autographivirinae within the family Podoviridae. Compared to the genome of gh-1, the sequence of ?IBB-PF7A is longer and contains more genes with unassigned function and lacks a few potentially essential and non-essential T7 genes, such as gene1.1, 3.8, and 7.
