To protect against aneuploidy, chromosomes must attach to microtubules from opposite poles ('biorientation') prior to their segregation during mitosis. Biorientation relies on the correction of erroneous attachments by the aurora B kinase, which destabilizes kinetochore-microtubule attachments that lack tension.
