A co-crystal of 1,10-phenanthroline with boric acid: a novel aza-aromatic complex.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C12H8N2·2B(OH)3, is best described as a host-guest complex in which the B(OH)3 mol-ecules form a hydrogen-bonded cyclic network of layers parallel to the ab plane into which the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules are bound. An extensive network of hydrogen bonds are responsible for the crystal stability. No ?-stacking inter-actions occur between the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules.

Project description:Crystals of 1,10-phenanthrolinium penta-fluorido-oxidotungstate(VI), (1,10-phen-H)[WOF5] (1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, C12H8N2), were obtained upon hydrolysis of WF6(1,10-phen) in CH3CN at 193?K. The (1,10-phen-H)[WOF5] salt contains a rare example of a [WOF5]- anion in which the oxygen and fluorine atoms are ordered. This ordering was verified by bond-valence determinations and structural comparisons with [Xe2F11][WOF5] and Lewis acid-base adducts of WOF4 with main-group donor ligands. The crystal packing is controlled by N-H?F hydrogen bonding that is directed exclusively to the axial F atom as a result of its increased basicity caused by the trans influence of the oxido ligand.

Project description:The title complex, [Ni2(C9H4O6)2(C13H8N4)2(H2O)4]·2H2O, bis-(?-5-carb-oxy-benzene-1,3-di-carboxyl-ato-?(2) O (1):O (1'))bis-[di-aqua(1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline-?(2) N (7),N (8))nickel(II)] di-hydrate, was obtained under solvothermal conditions by the reaction of benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (H3BTC) with Ni(NO3)2 in the presence of 1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline (IP). The crystal has triclinic (P-1) symmetry with a centrosymmetric binuclear nickel(II) cluster. The Ni(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from a chelating 1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline ligand, two carboxyl-ate O atoms from two 5-carb-oxy-benzene-1,3-di-carboxyl-ate ligands and two water mol-ecules in a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. Two carboxyl-ate groups bridge two Ni(II) cations, forming the binuclear complex. Extensive N-H?O, O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure, forming a three-dimensional supermolecular framework. Weak ?-? stacking is observed between parallel HBTC(2-) and IP ring systems, the face-to-face separation being 3.695?(2)?Å.

Palladium(II) complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline: Synthesis and X-ray crystal structure determination.

Project description:Two palladium(II) complexes, [Pd(phen)(N identical withCCH(3))(2)][O(3)SCF(3)](2) (1) and [Pd(phen)(mu-OH)](2)[O(3)SCF(3)](2).2H(2)O (2) (where phen= 1,10-phenanthroline), have been crystallized following the reaction of Pd(phen)Cl(2) with silver triflate, Ag(O(3)SCF(3)), in acetonitrile and water, respectively. The structures of both complexes are based on a Pd(phen)(2+) metal core, with two acetonitrile molecules binding in a monodentate fashion in complex 1 and two hydroxo bridges holding together two cores to form a dimer in complex 2. Additionally, both complexes present a hydrogen bonded 3-D network involving the triflate anions in 1, and water and triflate anions in 2. Both complexes have been characterized by infrared and (1)H NMR spectroscopy and their crystal structures determined by X-ray crystallography.

Project description:The title compound, [MoF(2)O(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))], has non-crystallographic mirror symmetry. The Mo(VI) atom shows a distorted octa-hedral environment, with the phenanthroline N atoms and the two oxide groups forming the equatorial plane and the F atoms occupying the apical positions. Weak C-H?O and C-H?F hydrogen-bonding contacts and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.662?(1)?Å] connect the complex mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework.

Crystal structure of 11-[4-(hex-yloxy)phen-yl]-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-a][1,10]phenanthroline.

Project description:The title compound, C25H24N4O, was prepared from 2-chloro-phenanthroline and hexyl-oxyphenyl-tetra-zole. The main difference between the two independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit is the orientation of the all-anti-configured hex-yloxy chain: in A the C-O-C-C torsion angle is 175.9 (2)° whereas it is -88.3 (3)° in B. The benzene substitution in the bay of the triazolophenanthroline results in a helical distorsion of the heterocyclic core, the dihedral angles between the mean planes formed by quinoline and benzotriazole ring systems are 13.73 (9) for mol-ecule A and 14.87 (8)° for B. The dihedral angles between the triazole ring and the attached benzene ring are 45.87 (15) in A and 53.93 (14)° in B. The angular annulation of four rings and the benzene substituent results in a helical distortion of the aromatic framework. The crystal is formed from layers composed of centrosymmetric pairs of A 2, B 2 mol-ecules with inter-digitating alkyl chains.

Project description:In the title complex, [Cu(C(7)H(5)O(2))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]Cl·2C(6)H(5)CO-OH, the Cu(II) ion is coordinated by one carboxyl-ate O atom from a benzoate anion and four N atoms from two phenantroline ligands in a distorted five-coordinate trigonal-bipyramidal CuON(4) chromophore. The Cu(2+) and the Cl(-) ion are imposed by a twofold rotation axiss which also bisects the equally disordered benzoate anion. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are assembled into chains along [010] by C-H?Cl, O-H?Cl and C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. The resulting chains are further connected into two-dimensional supra-molecular layers parallel to [100] by inter-chain ??? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.823?(5)?Å] between the phenanthroline ligands and the benzoic acid mol-ecules, and by C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. Strong ??? stacking inter-actions between adjacent phenantroline ligands [3.548?(4)?Å] assemble the layers into a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C24H16N2·0.5CH3OH, is comprised of two independent bathophenanthroline mol-ecules (systematic name: 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline) and one methanol mol-ecule. The bathophenanthroline mol-ecules are not planar as there is a considerable rotation of all terminal phenyl rings with respect to the central phenanthroline units [dihedral angles in the range 52.21?(12)-62.14?(10)°]. In addition, a non-negligible torsion is apparent in one of the phenanthroline units: the angle between the mean planes of the two pyridine rings is 14.84?(13)°. The methanol solvent mol-ecule is linked to both N atoms of a bathophenanthroline mol-ecule through a bifurcated O-H?(N,N) hydrogen bond.
