A new polymorph of N-(2-{N'-[(1E)-2-hy-droxy-benzyl-idene]hydrazinecarbon-yl}phen-yl)benzamide.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C21H17N3O3, is a new polymorph of an already published structure [Shashidhar et al. (2006 ?). Acta Cryst. E62, o4473-o4475]. The previously reported structure crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, whereas the structure reported here is in the tetra-gonal space group I41/a. The bond lengths and angles are similar in both structures. The mol-ecule adopts an extended conformation via intra-molecular N-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds; the terminal phenyl ring and the hy-droxy-lphenyl ring are twisted with respect to the central benzene ring by 44.43?(7) and 21.99?(8)°, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?? inter-actions into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(18)H(19)N(3)O(5), adopts a curved arrangement with the terminal benzene rings lying to the same side. The hydroxyl-benzene ring is close to coplanar with the adjacent hydrazine residue [dihedral angle = 11.14?(12)°], an observation which correlates with the presence of an intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond. The benzyl ring forms a dihedral angle of 50.84?(13)° with the adjacent carbamate group. A twist in the mol-ecule, at the chiral C atom, is reflected in the dihedral angle of 80.21?(12)° formed between the amide residues. The conformation about the imine bond [1.290?(4)?Å] is E and an intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond helps to establish the near coplanarity of the hy-droxy-benzene and hydrazine groups. The crystal packing features O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds, leading to two-dimensional supra-molecular arrays in the ab plane with weak C-H?? connections between the arrays.

Project description:The title compound, C(15)H(14)N(4)O(2)S, is a derivative of thio-ureadihydrazide. In contrast to the previously reported polymorph (ortho-rhom-bic, space group Pbca, Z = 8), the current study revealed monoclinic symmetry (space group P2(1)/n, Z = 4). The mol-ecule shows non-crystallographic C(2) as well as approximate C(s) symmetry. Intra-molecular bifurcated O-H?(N,S) hydrogen bonds, are present. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H?S hydrogen bonds and C-H?? contacts connect the mol-ecules into undulating chains along the b axis. The shortest centroid-centroid distance between two aromatic systems is 4.5285?(12)?Å.

Comparisons are made with some related structures.
