Complete Genome Sequence of Bacillus anthracis HYU01, Isolated from Soil Samples in the Korean Peninsula.

ABSTRACT: Bacillus anthracis is a Gram-positive endospore-forming bacterium that causes the zoonotic disease anthrax. We report a complete genome sequence of B. anthracis strain HYU01, isolated from Changnyung, which belongs to the B branch (B.Br.) 001/002 canonical single nucleotide polymorphism (canSNP) group.

Project description:Bacillus anthracis H9401 (NCCP 12889) is an isolate from a Korean patient with gastrointestinal anthrax. The whole genome of H9401 was sequenced. It is a circular chromosome containing 5,480 open reading frames (ORFs) and two plasmids, pXO1 containing 202 ORFs and pXO2 containing 110 ORFs. H9401 shows high pathogenicity and genome sequence similarity to Ames Ancestor.

Project description:The pathogenic bacterium Bacillus anthracis has become the subject of intense study as a result of its use in a bioterrorism attack in the United States in September and October 2001. Previous studies suggested that B. anthracis Ames Ancestor, the original Ames fully virulent plasmid-containing isolate, was the ideal reference. This study describes the complete genome sequence of that original isolate, derived from a sample kept in cold storage since 1981.

Project description:We report here the complete genome sequence of a Bacillus cereus isolate identified in a soil sample from Namibia. This isolate is closely related to the B. anthracis clade. While the plasmids (500 and 12?kb) carry no detectable B. anthracis virulence gene, the large plasmid shares a 50-kb continuous region similar to plasmid pXO1.

Genome sequence of Bacillus anthracis typing phage AP631.

Project description:AP631, a virulent bacteriophage of Bacillus anthracis, is widely used in China to identify anthrax bacteria. In this study, we report the complete AP631 phage genome sequence as well as comparative genomic analysis with other bacteriophages of B. cereus and related species. The double-stranded circular DNA genome of phage AP631 was 39,549 bp in length with 35.01% G?+?C content. The phage genome contained 56 putative protein-coding genes but no rRNA or tRNA genes. Comparative phylogenetic analysis of the phage major capsid proteins and terminase large subunits showed that phage AP631 belongs to the B. cereus sensu lato phage clade II. Comparative genomic analysis revealed a high degree of sequence similarity between phage AP631 and B. anthracis phages Wbeta, Gamma, Cherry, and Fah, as well as three AP631-specific genes bearing no significant similarity to those of other phages.
