ABSTRACT: The complex molecule of the title compound, [Rh2{N(C6H5)COCH3}4(NCC7H7)], has crystallographically-imposed mirror symmetry. The four acetamide ligands bridging the dirhodium core are arranged in a 2,2-cis manner with two N atoms and two O atoms coordinating to the unique Rh(II) atom cis to one another. The Neq-Rh-Rh-Oeq torsion angles on the acetamide bridge are 0.75?(7) and 1.99?(9)°. The axial nitrile ligand completes the distorted octa-hedral coordination sphere of one Rh(II) atom and shows a nonlinear coordination, with an Rh-N-C bond angle of 162.8?(5)°; the N-C bond length is 1.154?(7)?Å.

Project description:In the title compound, [Rh2(C8H8NO)4(C8H7N)], the four acetamidate ligands bridging the dirhodium core are arranged in a 2,2-trans manner. One Rh(II) atom is five-coordinate, in a distorted pyramidal geometry, while the other is six-coord-in-ate, with a disorted octa-hedral geometry. For the six-coord-inate Rh(II) atom, the axial nitrile ligand shows a non-linear Rh-nitrile coordination with an Rh-N-C bond angle of 166.4 (4)° and a nitrile N-C bond length of 1.138 (6) Å. Each unique Rh(II) atom is coordinated by a trans pair of N atoms and a trans pair of O atoms from the four acetamide ligands. The Neq-Rh-Rh-Oeq torsion angles on the acetamide bridge varies between 12.55 (11) and 14.04 (8)°. In the crystal, the 3-methyl-benzo-nitrile ring shows a π-π inter-action with an inversion-related equivalent [inter-planar spacing = 3.360 (6) Å]. A phenyl ring on one of the acetamide ligands also has a face-to-face π-π inter-action with an inversion-related equivalent [inter-planar spacing = 3.416 (5) Å].

Project description:The title structure, [Rh?(C??H??NO)?(C?H?N)?], contains a dinuclear Rh complex of point symmetry -4 with an Rh-Rh unit and two benzonitrile ligands located in special positions along the twofold axis passing through -4. Four symmetry-equivalent mesitylacetamidate ligands bridge the Rh-Rh unit. Thus, each Rh(II) atom has an approximately octa-hedral coordination by one Rh [Rh-Rh = 2.4290?(6)?Å], two acetamidate O atoms trans to each other [Rh-O = 2.044?(3)?Å], two acetamidate N atoms trans to each other [Rh-N = 2.091?(4)?Å], and a benzonitrile N atom trans to Rh [Rh-N = 2.222?(3)?Å]. The structure is held together by weak van der Waals forces.

Project description:In the cation of the title salt, C4H10NO(+)·C24H20B(-)·C2H3N, the C-N bond lengths are 1.2864 (16), 1.4651 (17) and 1.4686 (16) Å, indicating double- and single-bond character, respectively. The C-O bond length of 1.2978 (15) Å shows double-bond character, pointing towards charge delocalization within the NCO plane of the iminium ion. C-H⋯π inter-actions are present between the methine H atom and two of the phenyl rings of the tetra-phenyl-borate ion. The latter forms an aromatic pocket in which the cation is embedded. The iminium ion is further connected through a C-H⋯N hydrogen bond to the aceto-nitrile mol-ecule. This leads to the formation of a two-dimensional supramolecular pattern along the bc plane.

The C-O bond length of 1.2950 (18) Å shows a double-bond character, pointing towards charge delocalization within the NCO plane of the iminium ion. The two C atoms of the n-butyl group are disordered over the two sites, with refined occupancy ratios of 0.890 (5):0.110 (5) and 0.888 (4):0.112 (4). In the crystal, C-H⋯π inter-actions occur between the methine H atom, H atoms of the -N(CH3)2 and -CH2 groups of the cation, and two of the phenyl rings of the tetra-phenyl-borate anion. The latter inter-action forms an aromatic pocket in which the cation is embedded. Thus, a two-dimensional pattern is created in the ac plane.

In the crystal structure, the mol-ecule lies on a crystallographic mirror plane, and a single ethyl acetate mol-ecule (also lying on the mirror plane) is present within the compound cavity, illustrating the host capabilities of the mol-ecule.

The unsubstituted polyannulenoenyne, C(36)H(16) (CSD: RICVEE; CAS: 186494-87-1), has quasi-D(2) (222) symmetry, as determined by least-squares fit (excluding H atoms) to a model optimized in D(2) symmetry by mol-ecular mechanics (r.m.s. deviation = 0.239 Å). The least-squares fits of 36 common C atoms of the title compound (at 90 K) to the parent (at 295 K) and to the optimized model show r.m.s. deviations of 0.419 and 0.426 Å, respectively.

Project description:In the title crystals, C8H5Br2N, which are isomorphous, the steric bulk of the methyl group causes neighboring mol-ecules to become mutually inclined. This prevents the formation of planar or nearly planar sheets, which were observed in the tri-chloro and tri-bromo analogs. Instead of CN/NC?Br contacts, tetra-meric Br?Br contacts are observed. These contacts form tetra-gonally puckered sheets parallel to (001). The CN/NC and methyl groups are grouped at the peaks and troughs. Both mol-ecules lie across crystallographic mirror planes; thus, the methyl H atoms are disordered over two sets of sites with equal occupancy. The title nitrile is a redetermination. The refinement converged at R[F2 > 2?(F2)] = 0.020, whereas the original determination [Gleason & Britton, (1976 ?). Cryst. Struct. Commun.5, 229-232] had R = 0.112.
