Chloride channel gating and trafficking of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) are regulated by phosphorylation. Intrinsically disordered segments of the protein are responsible for phospho-regulation, particularly the regulatory (R) region that is a target for several kinases and phosphatases.
