Crystal structure of poly[[?3-4,4'-(4,4'-bipyridine-2,6-diyl)dibenzoato]{?2-4-[6-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,4'-bipyridin-4'-ium-2-yl]benzoato}manganese(II)] hemi-hydrate].

ABSTRACT: The title compound, {[Mn(C24H14N2O4)(C24H16N2O4)]·0.5H2O} n , was obtained by the reaction of manganese nitrate with the ligand 4,4'-(4,4'-bi-pyridine-2,6-di-yl) di-benzoic acid under hydro-thermal conditions. The water O atom is located on a twofold rotation axis. The Mn(2+) ion is hepta-coordinated by six O atoms and one N atom from the ligands. In this structure, the ligands adopts two different forms, one completely deprotonated and one with a protonated N atom (pyridinium) and a carboxylic acid function. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds consolidate the packing, forming a three-dimensional framework.

Project description:In the title compound, C(24)H(17)N(2)O(4) (+)·NO(3) (-)·0.25H(2)O, the central pyridine ring of the 2',6'-bis-(4-carb-oxy-phen-yl)-4,4'-bipyridin-1-ium cation is almost coplanar with one benzene ring [dihedral angle = 1.03?(5)°], while it makes dihedral angles of 9.59?(5)° with the other benzene ring and 13.66?(6)° with the pyridinium ring. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the cations and nitrate anions into a sheet in the (302) plane. The crystal structure also exhibits ?-? inter-actions between the central pyridine ring and the benzene rings of neighboring mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distance = 3.6756?(13)?Å].

The Zn(II) atoms are connected by the bridging ligands into a layer parallel to (101). O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the layers and the dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules. ?-? inter-actions between the pyridine and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.7428?(17) and 3.7619?(17)?Å] and intra-layer O-H?O hydrogen bonds are also present.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Zn(C(7)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·4H(2)O}(n), contains a highly distorted octa-hedral Zn(II) metal center strongly coordinated by two N atoms of two 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands and chelated by two 4-methyl-benzoate anions. The crystallographic inversion center and glide plane present at the center of the C-C single bond of 4,4'-bipy, along with the cis coordination motif of the 4,4'-bipy, lead to one-dimensional zigzag chains. There are a large number of water mol-ecules in the crystal structure, which also form one-dimensional chains through O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The asymmetric unit contains a discrete Keggin-type [SiW(12)O(40)](4-) anion (located on a twofold axis), one 4,4'-bipy (located on a twofold axis), two (4,4'-bipyH(2))(2+) cations and six uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The polyoxoanion is constructed from a central SiO(4) tetra-hedron which shares its O atoms with four trinuclear W(3)O(13) groups, each of which is made up of three edge-sharing WO(6) octa-hedra. The water mol-ecules and [SiW(12)O(40)](4-) anions are linked through hydrogen bonds.

Project description:Crystals of the title compound, C17H15N2 +·BF4 -, were unexpectedly grown from crystallization attempts of [Pt(4,4'-bpy)4](BF4)2 [Smith et al. (2019 ▸). Comments Inorg. Chem. 39, 188-215] using toluene and aceto-nitrile. The tetra-fluoro-borate anion and the central pyridinium ring of the cation are disordered, with atomic site occupancies close to ½. The tolyl group of the cation has a 75.31 (11)° twist relative to the unsubstituted pyridyl group. This rotation allows for a centrosymmetric dimer of cations with weak hydrogen bonding between the pyridyl nitro-gen atom and a methyl H atom on the neighbouring cation.

One 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecule bridges two Mn atoms, forming a centrosymmetric dinuclear complex; the mid-point of the C-C bond linking the pyridine rings of the bridging ligand is located on an inversion center. Each Mn(II) atom is coordinated by four water and two 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Mn(II) atom deviates by 0.591?(5) and 0.209?(2)?Å from the mean planes of the coordinated pyridine rings. In the 4-(4-pyridyl)pyridinium cation, the two pyridine rings are twisted with respect to each other, making dihedral angle of 34.78?(17)°. The uncoordinated bipyridine mol-ecule is also centrosymmetric. One of uncoordinated water mol-ecules has site symmetry 2, and the other uncoordinated water mol-ecule is located close to an inversion center and its one H atom is disordered equally over two sites. Extensive ?-? stacking between pyridine rings is observed and an extensive hydrogen-bonding network of the types N-H?N, O-H?N and O-H?O is present.
