Draft Genome Sequences of Two Drug-Resistant Isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Obtained from Keratitis Patients in India.

ABSTRACT: We report here the draft genomes of two drug (fluoroquinolone)-resistant clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa obtained from the corneal scrapings of keratitis patients from India. The two annotated genomes are 6.31 Mb and 6.41 Mb in size. These genomes are expected to facilitate the identification and understanding of the genes associated with acquired multidrug resistance.

Project description:Four multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were cultured from intensive care unit wastewater. All isolates exhibited resistance to carbapenem and extended-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotics. Genome characterization revealed the presence of beta-lactamase resistance genes (bla PAO and bla OXA), and three out of the four isolates carried the bla NDM-1 gene encoding resistance against carbapenems.

Five multidrug resistant P. aeruginosa strains isolated from wounded military personnel were sequenced and annotated in this work.
