ABSTRACT: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram-negative bacterium that has the ability to survive in and readily adapt to a variety of environmental conditions. Here, we report 2 genome sequences of P. aeruginosa strains, UMB1046 and UMB5686, isolated from the female urogenital tract.

Project description:Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a Gram-negative bacterium that causes severe hospital-acquired infections, is grouped as an ESKAPE (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species) pathogen because of its extensive drug resistance phenotypes and effects on human health worldwide. Five multidrug resistant P. aeruginosa strains isolated from wounded military personnel were sequenced and annotated in this work.

Project description:We report here the draft genomes of two drug (fluoroquinolone)-resistant clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa obtained from the corneal scrapings of keratitis patients from India. The two annotated genomes are 6.31 Mb and 6.41 Mb in size. These genomes are expected to facilitate the identification and understanding of the genes associated with acquired multidrug resistance.

Project description:Four multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates were cultured from intensive care unit wastewater. All isolates exhibited resistance to carbapenem and extended-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotics. Genome characterization revealed the presence of beta-lactamase resistance genes (bla PAO and bla OXA), and three out of the four isolates carried the bla NDM-1 gene encoding resistance against carbapenems.

Both mutants were generated from a transposon mutagenesis screen.
