Synthesis and immunological study of ?-2,9-oligosialic acid conjugates as anti-group C meningitis vaccines.


ABSTRACT: ?-2,9-Di-, tri-, tetra-, and pentasialic acids were prepared and conjugated with a carrier protein. The resultant glycoconjugates elicited robust T cell-mediated immunity in mice. ?-2,9-Trisialic acid was identified as a promising antigen for developing glycoconjugate vaccines against group C Neisseria meningitidis.
