Roquin mediates mRNA degradation by recognizing the constitutive-decay element (CDE) in the 3' untranslated region of the target gene followed by recruitment of the deadenylation machinery. Deficiency or dysfunction of Roquin has been associated with autoimmunity and inflammation.
